Baseball-wise, not much of a worse way to spend a weekend than watching your team fall 26-6 in three consecutive games, made worse if it's against two of your most disliked teams in baseball. So, this weekend wasn't quite the most pleasant- but what can we really expect as Diamondbacks fans? But, well, at least we're halfway through the season now?
Recaps:
-
[azcentral.com] Cubs top Diamondbacks, overcome 9 walks - Again, so many walks in a DBacks game. But this time, it wasn't our pitcher. This time, it didn't come back to bite the pitcher.
-
[chicagotribune.com] Chicago Cubs beat Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 - The Cubs had lost the first game in their last eleven series. DBacks offense- good for what ails ya.
-
[tsn.ca] Cubs crush struggling Diamondbacks - No mention of how ugly Gorzelanny is, though. What kind of reporting is that?
DBacks News:
-
[mlb.com] Gibson's style is what D-backs need - GIbson describes being manager as "a big challenge." No kidding, Kirk?
-
[calltothepen.com] What’s Next: Jerry DiPoto Facing Tough Task - Speaking of challenges... DiPoto's in an even worse spot, since he has to make long-term decisions on what's probably a short-term job.
-
[ktar, com] Gambo: Construction of D-backs needs to be fixed - Gambo stats what most of us (outside AZ Central) are thinking- just a change of manager isn't going to be enough to fix this team.
-
[mlive.com] Detroit Tigers interested in trading for Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew - This was mentioned yesterday, but, uh, some jerk mixed up the days and didn't remember he had to do SnakeBytes until it was too late in the day.
-
[SBN Arizona] Four Days, Four Different Lineups For Kirk Gibson - Kirk has been more Mad Scientist in his lineup construction so far than not- is he trying to give out playing time, or show off players for scouts in the audience?
Around The League:
-
[cbssports.com] By the Numbers: Rocky road ahead for Ubaldo? - A look at pitchers who have been getting lucky, unlucky, or neither. Ubaldo, Haren, and Scherzer, respectively, are listed.
-
[yahoo.com] Braden and union don't approve of 'Get off my mound' T-shirts - Sorry, Braden, but they're pretty funny.
-
[ajc.com] Five Braves named All-Stars, including Infante - "I got a call from Frank Wren, and the first thought I had was that I got traded[...] By the time Frank told me I was going to the All-Star game, I thought he was joking around." We felt the same way, Omar.
-
[sportsillustrated.com] Alex Rios, Josh Willingham and the true MLB All-Star team - A look at who probably deserves to be on the All Star roster.
There's your links for the day. Barry Enright makes his first Chase Field start this afternoon, we'll get a chance to remind Cubs fans just why they dread coming to Phoenix, and maybe, just maybe, someone'll start that chant we want to hear tonight.
