Who would have guessed? On the one day MLB does basically nothing, we don't have a lot of news. Weeeeird. The Diamondbacks don't even play today, waiting to start their series against the Padres tomorrow, so this is pretty much the longest time we'll go without having even the opportunity to see the DBacks play a game since the start of March. Enjoy it.
DBacks News:
-
[foxsportsarizona.com] D-Backs down ... but not done - Last place. But still plenty of games to play, plenty of decisions to make, and if nothing else, maybe we can interfere with someone else's playoff hopes.
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks interim manager Kirk Gibson figuring out his method - See, this is why you shouldn't hire a manager with no previous experience, right? Seriously, though, hopefully this is a time for Gibbie to figure out his role and see if he'll have a shot at removing "interim" from that title.
-
[scout.com] Diamondbacks Readjust Upper-Level Pitching - Some moves in the minor league system: Leyson Septimo and Josh Collmenter move up to Reno, while Bryan Augenstein and Bryan Woodall head up to Mobile. Wait, we actually promote people from Mobile to Reno? I thought they moved straight up here.
-
[azcentral.com] D-Backs deserve a better crowd - Slow news day means you get letters to the editor. Seriously, though. Who complains to security about people cheering too loudly at a game? Well, other than Ryan Spilborghs. He'll meet you in the parking lot, number nineteeeen.
-
[examiner.com] D-Backs hope change in manager points in right direction - Desperately, desperately hope.
-
[BaseballAmerica.com] IL Bullpen Cools PCL Bats In All-Star Win - Reno Aces representative Dougs Deeds went 0 for 3 with a walk, and ended the game by flying out to former DBack Jeff Salazar.
-
[si.com] Padres fall short, Cliff Lee trade, other second-half predictions - Joe Sheehan makes his predictions for the second half- he predicts your World Series champ will come out of the AL East.
-
[nbcsports.com] Yankees are team to beat as 2nd half starts - I think the days after the All Star Game are generally so that columnists have time to make second half predictions, or just spend some time praising the Yankees again. Yawn.
-
[London Guardian] George Steinbrenner: the biggest loser in baseball - Of course, across the pond, they may not play so nice. "A bully and a brat, devoid of humility, class, and civility, born on third base, deluded that he'd hit a triple, and convinced he had to tell the whole world how he'd done it. Famed for his bombast and for making himself bigger than his players and team, tolerated only because he had money and power, this Yankee Doodle Dandy born on the Fourth of July paved the way for America to become a loser by his example."
-
[espn.com] Report: McCourts rankle judge; could force sale - That would be an interesting turn of events, but with one franchise already possibly being auctioned off, I can't imagine MLB would be thrilled to see another team being forced to trade hands.
-
[fangraphs.com] Who Do The Players Find Overrated? - I'm sure we all have our own opinions on who is overrated, but what about the players? Sports Illustrated polled 187 players, and gave us the top five responses. 4 of the 5 play in the AL East.
And there's your stories for the day. Tomorrow, our seemingly eternal stretch of baseball-less days ends, and our seemingly more-eternal stretch of the season continues against the Padres. Hooray?
