7pm tonight

Yep, they're letting me back in the press-box tonight, after I promised not to try and start the wave during tonight's game. ;-) It's the only way I would have any interest in attending these games, as let's be honest, spending my leisure time with Yankees fans is right down there, somewhere between root-canal work and federal prison. I'll see if I can keep my sarcasm in the "stun" range.

Line-up and stuff after the jump.

  1. Kelly Johnson 2B
  2. Stephen Drew SS
  3. Justin Upton RF
  4. Miguel Montero C
  5. Chris Young CF
  6. Adam LaRoche 1B
  7. Mark Reynolds 3B
  8. Gerardo Parra LF
  9. Rodrigo Lopez RHP

At least we don't have to have a DH tonight, so we get to enjoy the sight of AJ Burnett trying to hit instead - he's 1-for-13 since moving to the American League after 2005, though was a decent .134 during his time with Florida. Still, make no mistake: there's a reason the Yankees have the best record in the majors. That'd be because they completely outspend everyone else. As Jack points out, "The Yankees committed $423.5 million over two weeks in December, 2008, followed shortly by the 2009 World Series title." Hard to compete with that.

All told, the Yankees are spending $213 million on payroll this season. That's approach three times what Arizona did, and almost $20 million of ours is going to two players who haven't taken the mound for the Diamondbacks this year to date. Still, our boys will bravely take the field tonight, knowing that they have about as much to lose as Slovenia, thanks to local expectations which can fairly be summed up as "We'll be lucky if we only get swept." Bizarrely, this makes me feel optimistic, because the worst that can happen, is we get beaten, and that's what just about everyone is expecting.

So, go D-backs. Kick some Yankee ass and surprise us all.
