Gameday Thread, #44: 5/22 vs. Blue Jays

Dana Eveland
LHP, 3-3, 4.98

Edwin Jackson
RHP, 2-5, 6.33

Tonight's game is not televised, though I think any attendance boost will likely be more because of the garden gnome giveaway this evening than anything else. However, we will be abandoning the major-leagues entirely, preferring to opt for my first encounter ever with collegiate sports, as we head to Tempe to see ASU take on Oregon State. Tonight's recap will therefore be late and, largely, uninformed about the actual game. Insert humorous comment of choice there.

Line-up and details after the jump.

  1. Kelly Johnson 2B
  2. Tony Abreu SS
  3. Conor Jackson LF
  4. Justin Upton RF
  5. Adam LaRoche 1B
  6. Mark Reynolds 3B
  7. Chris Young CF
  8. John Hester C
  9. Edwin Jackson RHP

C'mon, guys: you can not be beaten by an opposing starter sporting a girl's name. But if Eveland sounds vaguely familiar, it's because he appeared in five games for us, including one start, back in 2007 - since he allowed eight runs in five innings of work, you can be forgiven for having forgotten them. He went to Oakland as part of the Dan Haren trade, and was then dealt on to the Blue Jays by the A's. Here's to tonight's result being as productive for Arizona as his start for us, when we scored 12 runs in the first three innings.

We'll be hoping Edwin Jackson is as effective as he was in his last start, and it promises to be an interesting clash of styles, as the hard-thrower goes up against the Blue Jays, who going by last night, never met a pitch they didn't feel deserved to be swung at from the heels. I don't know what the over-under is for tonight's game, but I'm inclined to take the over. Hopefully, we can keep going, win our fourth straight, and keep flying the flag for the NL.
