Well, there went our chances of having that ever-so-rare 162-0 season. Never fear, we still have a chance at 161-1! Tonight is the rubber match of the opening series against division rivals (and fellow 2009 cellar dweller) San Diego Padres. After last night's beating at the hands of Evil Chris Young, Diamondbacks hitters have got to be looking forward to facing anybody but! Kevin Correia probably doesn't get enough credit for his pitching; he consistently throws 6 innings allowing 2 or 3 runs. We can only hope for better results than the last time Correia faced Arizona (complete game shutout).
It's time for another starting pitcher to make his Diamondback debut - Ian Kennedy gets the ball tonight. He, like Evil Chris Young, is returning from 2009 shoulder surgery to remove an aneurysm. Is it too much to hope that Kennedy can pitch like Young did last night? If we could just keep Adrian Gonzalez in the yard, that'd be a big step forward.
Lineup after the jump.
- Johnson - 2B
- Drew - SS
- Upton - RF
- LaRoche - 1B
- Reynolds - 3B
- Young - CF
- Parra - LF
- Snyder - C
- Kennedy - P
A few notable changes tonight. Kelly Johnson gets a shot at leadoff while Conor Jackson gets a scheduled day off. Gerardo Parra starts in left, and Chris Snyder gets his first start of the year catching Kennedy.
The game is not on television for those in the Arizona area, so be sure to tune in 620 KTAR for radio coverage. I can't yet tell if the game will be on MLB Extra Innings for those of us outside of the Phoenix sports region.
Azreous is on the recap tonight. We've had two straight days of two gameday threads and 1,000+ comments - can we make it three?
