The Arizona Diamondbacks go for their first win streak of the season in the Opening Night game vs the San Diego Padres. The last time we went 2-0 to start the season was 2002, which was also, conveniently, against the Padres.
Tonight sees the return of Evil Chris Young and the debut of trade acquisition Edwin Jackson. Young is looking to rebound from a season cut short by shoulder surgery in June; let's welcome him back with a repeat of yesterday's offensive outburst. Upton, Jackson and LaRoche all have solid career numbers against Young.
Edwin Jackson has spent the last four years in the American League, and his last interleague start against San Diego was...uh, well... it wasn't pretty and we'll leave it at that. Jackson, acquired in the 3-way deal from Detroit for last year's #4 starter Max Scherzer and reliever Daniel Schlereth, was intended to be the #3 starter this season, but has bigger shoes to fill while former Cy Young winner Brandon Webb remains on the disabled list.
Zephon put a lot of recap/preview stories in today's Dbacks Daily, so I won't repeat them here. Lineup after the jump.
- C. Jackson/LF
- E. Jackson/RHP
What is the strange concept, using the same 1-8 lineup two days in a row?? I like it, let's see how it goes. Sprankton's on the recap tonight. Play ball!
