There's something to be said for sucking. It's the penultimate game of the season for the Diamondbacks, and promises to be a nice. relaxed, meaningless affair. Win or lose, we'll be able to sleep tonight. Contrast that with the situation in, say, San Diego tonight, where fans will be pacing the streets, desperate for the start of tomorrow's 162nd game in San Francisco. Sure, it'd be nice to be in contention. But to be in contention and then fall agonizingly, painfully, just short, and face a long winter with nothing but regrets and disappointment... I hope, when we win the NL West again, we don't muck about and canter in with a month to spare. I don't think I could stand the stress.

Last of the Colonel for this year; suspect he'll be back next season, to provide 'veteran presence'. No Mark Reynolds tonight, with Abreu taking over for him at third. Could this also be the shape of things to come in 2011? Well, plenty of time to talk about that after tomorrow.
