Games until the blessed, merciful end of the season: 10.

Hang on. Shurely there is shome mishtake here. ZOMGZ Jonathan Sanchez is the Greatest Pitcher Ever. We know this, because he was proclaimed as such by Giants fandom after his no-hitter earlier in the year. Never mind that it came against the Padres, in Petco: he was surely a lock for the Cy Young. Unfortunalely, the rest of the league has not shown him the deference due to the finest arm ever to take the mound, which is why he has one win in his past eight starts,. Well, that and the Giants offense doing what they do. Or could it be that Sanchez is merely a career journeyman who got lucky, one night in an extreme pitcher's park? Hush your blaspheming mouth.

Sarcasm aside, he has done better against the Diamondbacks: in his three starts facing us this season, he is 1-1 with a 1.86 ER - the loss came as the result of a single earned run, on June 11. Walks might be an issue, as he has allowed 13 of them in 19.1 innings facing Arizona - though the majority of those came in that same game. I also can't say I feel particularly confident about Mulvey, who has been ineffectual in his two starts for us, allowing fifteen hits, four walks and ten earned runs in eight innings. That said, his second one was a good bit better than his first, except in the area of control, so we'll see what he can do against a markedly-weaker offense than the Brewers and Rockies ones faced previously.

Line-up

  1. Chris Young CF
  2. Ryan Roberts 2B
  3. Justin Upton RF
  4. Miguel Montero C
  5. Mark Reynolds 3B
  6. Rusty Ryal 1B
  7. Eric Byrnes LF
  8. Augie Ojeda SS
  9. Kevin Mulvey P

Stacking the line-up with righties, hence the absence of the CHLFS brigade in Drew and Parra. Though I'd be happier if the alternatives we could pull in were not Byrnes and Ojeda, with OPS+ this season of 57 + 72 respectively. I am going to be about for this, but am going to buckle down on the transcribing, which really didn't get attacked with the passion it deserves. Tonight, that will be rectified. If I don't fall asleep immediately after the chicken tikka masala which I can smell wafting through from next door. Azreous is on the recap. I hope. :-)
