Our Eastern expedition continues, as we move into Pittsburgh for three more against the Pirates, from whom we took three of four a couple of weeks back. The bad news is, today's match-up is a repeat of the other contest, where Duke and the Pirates hammered Petit and the Diamondbacks by a score of 10-3. That game was Exhibit A in the case for Petit not being a starter - he was great the first time through the opposing line-up, but they torched him thereafter, and he ended up allowing six runs in 4.1 innings, after pitching shutout ball through three.
Since then, however, we had the frankly astonishing sight of Petit going six shutout innings against the powerhouse Phillies, at Chase Field no less. Perhaps the signing of Daniel Cabrera might also push Petit a bit harder, knowing that it gives us an option - albeit an option which, by all accounts, makes Charlie Sheen's character in Major League look like Tom Glavine. We'll see whether this inspires Petit to repeat his performance: despite the surprising succes last time. I can't honestly say I am expecting more of the same tonight.
