SnakePit Fantasy Baseball, Week 20

Most matchups this week had the teams within shouting distance of each other, but yet there ended up being some some movement in the overall standings. Here's the overview; details after the jump.

Blonde Streaks 6, Captain Douchebag 3
AZ SnakePit 3, Arizona Muugens 5
GregSchulteOverdrive 1, Balco's Boys 8
Wimboes Barmy Army 1, Desert Dingleberries 7
7-2 Offsuiters 5, Moving on Uptons 5
warlords 4, Kapsaicin Kids 5
The Fighting Amish 5, Confederate Generals 3
Shoryukens! 7, Baked 3

Week 20 Results

Blonde Streaks 6, Captain Douchebag 3
Blonde's pitching staff struggled this week, with Lincecum and Beckett accumulating a 7+ ERA, but Captain couldn't bring enough offense to the table to take advantage. Captain won ERA, WHIP and Stolen Bases, and the teams tied with 5 saves, but Blonde took the rest. Ben Zobrist and Kendry Morales each had 7 RBIs for Blonde, and King Felix Hernandez amassed 15 Ks for Captain.

AZ SnakePit 3, Arizona Muugens 5
Muu's pitching staff's numbers returned to earth this week and there was an almost perfect split of the offense and pitching categories. Muu took runs, home runs, RBI, stolen bases, and average (all by quite a big margin) thanks to big weeks from Brian Roberts and Jayson Werth, but SnakePit took K (10 from Justin Verlander), ERA and WHIP. Wins (3) and Saves (1) were tied.

GregSchulteOverdrive 1, Balco's Boys 8
Balco was very close to a sweep this week! Greg took wins 2 to 1 and the teams tied with 3 saves, but Balco took the rest of the cake. John Lannan's 37.80 ERA was the bugaboo for Greg, and nearly everybody's average was below .300. Balco got big performances from Chase Utley and Michael Young, and 15 Ks from Ryan Dempster.

Wimboes Barmy Army 1, Desert Dingleberries 7
Sad to say, another contest where Desert pretty much took the whole enchilada. Wimb's pitching staff really came through with 43 strikeouts (14 each from Scherrzer and Ricky Nolasco), but Aaron Rowand was Wimb's only offensive force this week (7 RBI, 3 home runs). Guerrero and Cabrera had high averages and RBI for Desert, Francisco Cordero's 10+ ERA didn't hurt them in the pitching categories. Amazingly, the teams were tied for WHIP - one difference in anybody's hits or walks would've turned that table.

7-2 Offsuiters 5, Moving on Uptons 5
A real mishmash of results in this matchup. 7-2 and Moving were close in most of the categories, and split pitching and offense. Both teams had a poor offensive week, 7-2 barely edged Moving for RBI and SB, but Upton took HR (3 from Prince Fielder) and average. 7-2 got 4 wins and 3 saves from their pitching staff, but Matt Cain and John Smoltz led Moving to victory in ERA and WHIP.

warlords 4, Kapsaicin Kids 5
Another up and down week for war and Kaps, with Kaps getting the win to stay in the Top 10. Nobody's averages were much to write home about, and Victor Martinez's 5 runs, 5 RBI and .409 average couldn't help Kaps with any of those categories (but Kaps did get 3 stolen bases from Hunter Pence). A strong outing by Jonathan Sanchez couldn't help war overcome Kaps in pitching (who was helped by Ubaldo Jimenez's 2 wins and 2.25 ERA).

The Fighting Amish 5, Confederate Generals 3
A close contest here as both pitching staffs held these two close. Their teams combined for 8 wins and 11 saves in one week! Wins were split evenly, and Amish took the saves category, 6 to 5. In fact, good outings from Chris Carpenter (2 Wins, 14 Ks) and Rich Harden (8 Ks, 0.00 ERA) helped Amish win the rest of the pitching categories. Confederate had 9 stolen bases (spread evenly) to demolish that category, and their runs and averages were just enough to garner 3 wins for the wek.

Shoryukens! 7, Baked 3
Shory continues to live high in the standings with a big win this week. They had a big week from Carlos Peña (3 HR and 7 RBI) and a 16-game hit streak from Hanley Ramirez. Shory edged Baked for strikeouts (15 from CC Sabathia certainly helped), but poor outings from Derek Lowe and David Aardsma let Baked win the ERA and WHIP categories (with help from Jonathan Broxton and Matt Lindstrom's 0.00 ERAs).

Sorry, I have no idea what the Game of the Week is! With August drawing to a close, I expect the playoffs are right around the corner. Who will take the last spot, and can anybody catch 7-2 in first place? We'll find out!
