By the time you read this, we'll be on our way to Sliders, stack of tickets in hand, distributing them to the 50-odd attendees at DBBP/SnakePitFest 2008. Looking forward to that enormously: I am not quite as eightied-up for 80's Night as Mrs. SnakePit and Mrs. SnakePit -in-Law: it's perhaps a bit more difficult for guys to go retro, without looking like they've come straight from a Pride march. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it isn't really the effect I'm aiming for here. I will, however, be wearing a headband.

And how appropriate on 80's Night, to have Yusmeiro Petit on the mounds, since he pitches in the 80's. Okay, bit of a tenuous connection there. But he has been solid as a replacement for Micah Owings, despite benefiting [as noted previously] from an abnormally low BABIP, currently sitting at .207 on the season. His WHIP of 0.864, with only 29 hits in 41.2 innings, is thus completely unsustainable: for comparison, Dan Haren leads the National League, with a figure of 1.058. But if he can keep the ball in the park, we should still be in the game.

Volstad is one of those largely-unknown pitchers, the kind who has given us trouble in the past. He came within out out of a complete game against the Dodgers just before the All-Star break, and has five quality starts in his seven appearances in that role, so he promises to be a challenge, I think. As with Sanchez, control appears to be a potential issue - he's allowed 21 walks in 44.2 innings, though he has only allowed one home-run this season.

Pleased to see the Dodgers have already fallen into a 3-0 hole against the Phillies, at the time of writing still in the first inning: hopefully that'll keep up. For obvious reasons, I won't be in the Gameday Thread: I'm not sure who will be, since it looks like most of the usual suspects - socos, kishi, Skins, Azreous - are also going to be at the game. Pics and a report will follow when we get back though!
