Well, that game was a bit of a heartbreaker. Pittsburgh puts us in an early hole, seemingly insurmountable due to the lack of opportune hitting the Diamondbacks have been getting all night. They manage to tie it, the comeback kids, filling us with excitement once more, until Lyon lets in a single run in the 8th (with help from a balk) and the middle of the order goes in order in the 9th.

::sigh::

Okay, let's see what they have to say about this one.

The AP recap gives a lot of numbers for the Pirates, their season and work at home, and covers the 8th innings for both teams. It points out LaRoche likely would have scored from second anyway. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that hit get through a drawn-in infield?) The Republic's expositional, as always, article is much more reflecting on the game, the standings, the other teams than it is a recap. MLB.com, too, discusses the standings and Eric Byrnes' displeasure at the notion of being pleased at the shape the team is still in. Pretty good recap from the Tribune today, Arizona-focused game action with quotes, and not as an exposé. I vote to read that one if you missed the game.

Plenty of notes today: TC and CoJack and first and Owings taking BP (Republic), the numbers game at first base and left field and a nice bit on Matt Kata (Tribune), and the big brass supports Bob Melvin. (MLB.com)

Game time is 4:05pm again, Herdandez vs Morris. (No Y! Sports preview up yet.) This should be a good match-up, each pitcher struggling lately but each pitcher having strong careers but Morris worse this season. Let's get him on the ropes and let Livo have a strong outing.. we need it! Go Dbacks!
