If ever we need a win, it's today. Indeed, it'd take a perfect game, with every member of the team posting a positive win on the Fangraph, to wash the taste of yesterday's atrocity exhibition out of my mouth. That was like downing a pint of rancid wheat-grass, no chaser. But at least we bring Webb to the party, which has got to be a good thing, even though last time his seven shutout innings could hardly have stranded more base-runners if he'd been placing them by hand.

But really: it's not the pitching that bothers me. It's hitting which, since the start of the Dodgers series, has batted .220 and scored only 18 runs in seven games, while piling up a K:BB ratio of 54:24. The warning signs of a July slump are all there. Somehow, we've managed to avoid it, and are still only 1.5 games out of first, and half a game behind the wild-card. But, while we may be able to dodge the run-differential bullet, as long as we win close games and lost blowouts like yesterday, we won't do much scoring 3.81 runs/game, which is what we've been averaging over the past momth.

Not be about for much of this one: first at work, then off to IZW. Wondering if they'll have a ten-bell salute for Chris Benoit, as they did when other wrestlers (such as Eddie Guerrero, or most recently Sherri Martel) passed away? Kinda in two minds about that: does the manner of his final days wipe out the rest of his life? We'll see...
