Gameday Thread, #44: 5/19 vs. Pirates

Micah Owings, RHP (2-1, 3.30)
Tom Gorzelanny, LHP (5-2, 2.36)

Could do with a boost after yesterday's drubbing: at least we got the four-run monkey off our back, but when your pitchers give up double digits in runs, there's not much chance of any offense winning. Gorzelanny is another one in a series of good, young Pirates pitchers, so seeing him go against Owings is perhaps the shape of things to come. The bad news is, he's a leftie and our struggles against them have been well-documented over the first-quarter of this season.

As noted previously, Callaspo is back with the team: I'm sure this was not a decision inspired by our shortage of viable infield options. A quick check of the line-up reveals that he's not going to start today: that might be as much for PR purposes as anything else. Haven't heard what roster move has been carried out to make room for him on the roster. Wouldn't be surprised if Smith gets waived, after the briefest of stays with the Diamondbacks.

Will be about for the first hour, then off to a friend's birthday dinner: hopefully, we've blow this one open early, so I can relax and enjoy the rest of the night, rather than sneaking off to try and find a TV set!
