Gameday Thread, #41: 5/16 vs. Rockies

Brandon Webb, RHP (3-2, 3.32)
Aaron Cook, RHP (2-1, 4.38)

Randy Johnson having safely stashed away the first win of his second spell here - and closed to within 23 strikeouts of Roger Clemems as #2 on the all-time list - we now turn to our ace. Wow. After last night's performance, that seems a somewhat weird sentence to write, as Johnson's outing was very ace-like.

That Game Score of 79 was a level he only reached once during all of last season, and was his best six-inning appearance ever. Indeed, there's only been one better six-inning game in the past fifty years: Matt Perisho struck out twelve in six innings of two-run ball, on October 3rd, 1999. And he threw one less pitch than Randy, but did face one more hitter. So there. :-)

Anyway. Webb today, so we'll see how he responds to the bar set by Johnson. Be interesting to see if Reynolds is playing in place of Tracy - maybe he'll spark the offense into life and end the May-long streak of limpness.
