Gameday Thread, #98: 7/23 vs. Rockies

Byung-Hyun Kim, RHP (5-6, 4.78)
Juan Cruz, RHP (3-5, 4.53)

Kim! Both Mrs. SnakePit and I love Kim. Mind you, we also liked The Chronicles of Riddick. And Barb Wire. No, wait - that was just me. Anyway, BK was always a pleasure to watch with the Diamondbacks...okay, "pleasure" might not quite be the right word, but even when he was blowing up, we felt more sympathetic for him than peeved. [Would you have the guts go to a foreign country, where you don't speak the language, in order to practice your trade at the highest level?] So, after he left us, we still kept an eye on Kim, through his problems in Boston, to his resurrection as a starter in, of all places, Colorado.

But, while we wish him well, to business, and we move into the final stage of my master-plan for world domination (beginning with the NL West). All has gone swimmingly well so far, but if you've seen any James Bond film, you know that the best-laid plans of evil geniuses never get disrupted until the last possible moment. Still, the Diamondbacks are undeniably performing: Drew and Quentin are, so far, playing well enough that they deserve to be in the lineup on merit. Following tomorrow's break, Chris and I are off to Las Vegas on Tuesday night, to celebrate her, ah, "21st" birthday, and it would be fine if we could do so at the top of the division [npineda has kindly agreed to post GameDay Threads for Wednesday and Thursday].

Will get to see a little of the game, before heading for work. Here's to a win - but, ideally, coming after Kim leaves the game. Call us sentimental old fools if you like. :-) However, since leaving the D'backs, Kim is 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA when facing us, so the omens there are not brilliant. Maybe we should send Gonzo up to whisper "2001 World Series. Yankee Stadium" in his ear before first pitch.
