Gameday Thread, #162: 10/01 vs. Padres

And now, the end is near... It's amazing how the 162nd and last game of the season can still be so meaningful. The division title will be decided, and the Cy Young award is also, to all intents and purposes, up for grabs. Don't have time to write much, but I was amazed to see that the Cardinals opted not to go with Carpenter in their last game, gambling instead that they'll be able to survive without him, and keep their ace fresh for the playoffs. It doesn't appear to have worked, as they're 5-2 down in Milwaukee in the bottom of the ninth...but the Astros got beaten, so the Cardinals limp into the playoffs.

All this, and I've heard a whisper that a couple of players might be putting on a D'backs jersey for the final time... Dunno how true that is though... :-) All told, while this may be a meaningless game in the standings, it still promises to be quite a memorable one. For the final time this season: play ball! [Apologies for the delay in posting this, technical issues with SB Nation: fabulous timing, or what?]
