Dbacks pursuing Jason Bay?
Here is an excerpt from an article on FanNation about the Dbacks pursuing Jason Bay.
"The Diamondbacks and Cardinals are among the most ardent pursuers of Pirates star outfielder Jason Bay, SI.com has learned. The Mets and Rays, who also seek an outfielder, are among other teams thought to have checked in with the Pirates. Pittsburgh also has emerging star Xavier Nady, yet another fine outfielder, as a potential trade target. "There's been a great amount of interest in a couple of our right-handed hitters,'' Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said on Thursday, apparently referring to Bay and Nady."
I would love to hear everyones thoughts about having Bay in Sedona Red. I know there has also been talks of Xavier Nady being on the trading block for the Pirates. Both are Outfielders with some pop in thier bats. I wouldn't mind a move for one of these guys to add some offense.

Tony Clark
Doing what he does best. Come off of the bench and hit a HR. That is the role I hope he continues in. Let Jackson, Tracy, and Reynolds get the starts. I wouldn't mind the Dbacks offering Clark at job with the organization after the season. He is a class guy and a good baseball guy. I would love to see him pass some of his class on to young guys coming through the organization. Any thoughts?

Tough schedule coming up
Our next 10 games are against tough teams. We have the Padres coming in for 3 games. then we go to Milwaukee for 4 and Chicago for 3 before going to Florida and Atlanta. I think this is going to be an important stretch of games for the Dbacks. How important are these games and how will the Dbacks perform?

Quentin is sent down to AAA
"The Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday optioned rookie outfielder Carlos Quentin to Class AAA Tucson of the Pacific Coast League.
Quentin was hitting .210 with five homers and 28 RBI in 66 games for the Diamondbacks this season.
To replace Quentin, Arizona recalled outfielder Jeff Salazar from Tucson. Salazar was hitting .301 with eight homers and 50 RBI for the Sidewinders."
Let's hope Quentin can get his stuff together now and come back later. Any thoughts on Quentin being sent down and Salazar coming up? Anyone shocked?

NL West
Does anyone else see the NL west as a tight race from top to bottom. I don't think there is a truly weak team in the division this year. Perhaps San Francisco will turn out to be in the cellar this year if the old guys wear down. I think all 5 teams could end up within 10 games of each other. I also think they are some of the better teams in the NL this year. If Colorado gets pitching they will be in the thick of things. As long as our starters can go deep into games I believe we will take the division. I think our line-up can hit and we have a good bench. If our starters go deep and we don't expose or wear down our bullpen we will win the West. It will be a battle the whole way. I think everyone needs to buy Rolaids.

A little love from Yahoo sports
Here is a little love from Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports>
"Who are this year's Detroit Tigers?
The Arizona Diamondbacks.
They've got good pitching (Cy Young winner Brandon Webb and veterans Livan Hernandez and Doug Davis), an old guy to play the Kenny Rogers role (Randy Johnson, once he returns in April from back surgery), a future MVP candidate at shortstop (Stephen Drew), an exciting young center fielder (Chris Young) and a division that's ripe as a month-old strawberry.
Of course, all of that could be wrecked by a bullpen that rests somewhere between shaky and awful. Jose Valverde has shown he's not the answer at closer, yet he'll start spring with the role. Tony Pena has the fastball-slider combination, if not the mettle quite yet.
If the Diamondbacks find that they're too good for a mediocre bullpen, they've got the biggest cache of prospects in the National League and could easily land a Cordero or perhaps Akinori Otsuka from the Texas Rangers."
I would love to see a move for either Cordero or Otsuka.

How about talking with the Phillies
The Phillies just acquired Freddy Garcia which gives them 6 starting pitchers. Garcia, Brett Myers, Cole Hamels, Jon Lieber, Jamie Moyer and Adam Eaton. Personally I would not mind having any of these guys other than Moyer because he has been pitching since Ty Cobb retired. I can't see any of these guys going to the bullpen so something has to give. Just a thought. I think we need another pitcher in order to compete with the Dodgers who seem to be signing everyone including Jason Schmidt. I don't feel comfortable with anyone past Webb, Livan and Davis. It doesn't look like Mulder is going to work out. Any thoughts?

Tracy on the block?
looking at AZCentral.com today I found the following info.
With their eyes on trying to upgrade their pitching, the Diamondbacks have reportedly tried to interest the Angels in Chad Tracy.
Has anyone heard anything on this? What are your thoughts? We definately need another starter but is it worth giving up Chad Tracy?
My gut says for the right pitcher it might be a good deal but we could really be making a mistake. I think if Tracy had a true power hitter in the lineup behind him his numbers would improve greatly.

Chad Tracy
I was looking on MLB.com and came across something that startled me. I was wondering if you guys in Arizona have heard anything about this or if it is nothing (My hope).
The Angels have turned their attention on the three-time All-Star shortstop, whom they would move to third base. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Angels and Orioles exchanged proposals and were very far apart, with Baltimore wanting much more than GM Bill Stoneman sought to give up. Other third basemen on the Angels' wish list include Aramis Ramirez, Chad Tracy and Morgan Ensberg. Sean Casey and Craig Wilson are other suspected targets if the Angels choose instead to upgrade at first.
I hope this is just what it says "a wish". It would be a huge mistake for us to give away Tracy.

Dbacks my team Win or Lose
We have had some rough years since 2001. The 2004 team was unbelievably horrible and this year is starting to lean in that direction. I can almost expect to see a loss when I wake up the next morning. The game is either lost in the first inning or two or we lose it in the ninth. It can get frustrating at times trying to root for the D-backs but I always find myself excited about the next season and the next game. Whenever we get really frustrated we can look at the Royals. They probably would lose a seven game series to our AAA team. My hope is that J. Byrnes will take the slow steady approach to build this team to contend for years. If that means we stink for the rest of the year it is worth it for us to compete in 2007 and contend in 2008 and beyond. The team we have now is not the team that will take us to the promiseland and we have all expressed that. I look forward to seeing a totally different team take the field in 2007. I have always liked and respected Gonzo. He has always been one of my favorite players and one of our more talented players but it is time to say good-bye. I hope we will part on good terms but parting we must.
At this point I hope we will be sellers for the next three weeks. I also hope that the front office doesn't do anything stupid like sign Russ Ortiz #2. Give us a couple of young guys we can work with and sign an FA pitcher or two in the off season and we will be moving in the right direction. I look forward to following the Diamondbacks win or lose and I look forward to reading the posts on this site for the second half of the season. LET THE FIRE SALE BEGIN!
