Five players being overlooked

A discussion of the top five players who are not valued sufficiently by their organizations. It's written by Paul Swydan of FanGraphs. Patrick Corbin is one of the five: "Patrick Corbin, P, Arizona Diamondbacks "Last year, Corbin turned in some fairly solid work as a rookie in the Diamondbacks' rotation....it was Corbin who provided some stability to the back end of the rotation. In 17 starts he posted a 99 FIP that was nearly identical to that of rotation front man Ian Kennedy. "However, the Diamondbacks wanted to upgrade this offseason, and signed Brandon McCarthy, which bumps Corbin into a three-way battle for the fifth spot in the rotation... "Solution: Keep him in rotation until Hudson returns, then trade to contender looking for pitching help at deadline." This is part of an ESPN Insider article, so the complete article is behind a pay wall. It includes discussions of the other four players with 1+ seasons of experience, as well as a list of prospects who need to be "freed" by their clubs. Since there has been a lot of discussion about him here, I thought I'd mention that Profar is on the list of prospects.

Jose Martinez Scouting Report, Arizona Diamondbacks

Mikey Schwartze of MLB Dirt and Bullpen Banter scouts Jose Martinez after posting a 1.72 ERA in 73.1 IP with a 2.7 BB/9 and an 8.7 K/9. He includes vidoe of the start as well.

Adam Eaton - PCL Rookie of the Year

Eaton gets this well-deserved honor having hit. 379 for the Aces this season, with an on-base percentage of .452. Both numbers lead the league, as do his 37 stolen-bases for Reno.

Jason Marquis Signs One-Year Deal With the Twins

Marquis has signed a one-year deal with the Twins for 3 million. Hope he has some better luck there than he did with us

Detention Lecture: Your 2011 Arizona Diamondbacks

Since Jim is obviously to modest to post this up here himself, I'll do it for him. Our Esteemed Overlord/Dictator wrote this piece for Yahoo's Big League Stew. It's part of a series that BLS is doing to recap the seasons of all the teams that didn't make it to the postseason, and those who got eliminated. Enjoy

Wily Mo Pena's Walk Off Homer Wins the Game!

For those who didn't get to see what happens when you put in the right pinch hitter anyone other than Nady or Bloomquist...

Jim Joyce will not be umpiring any Dbacks games

Jim Joyce apparently has been demoted to the minors as MLB has announce he will not be umpiring any Armando Galaragga games this season. Just joking. They only announce that he wouldn't be presiding over any Dbacks games, just in case. I wonder what would happen if we were to let him go or traded him? Would they adjust the umpiring schedule? Hmmm...

Garland deal official?

Nick Piecoro reports that Garland signs with the D-Backs for $6-8 million. One year deal with a second year option that can be exercised by either the player or the team. Lets hope this works out. Will another year removed form injury be the answer for Garland? [Jim: Front Page'd for obvious reasons. :-) Full report to follow tonight!]

Baseball Has Been Very Good to Tony Pena

Tony has come along way since the days of Adrian Rosario. Tony just signed on to be a spokesman for QWEST. Only in America, can a guy go from being busted for a phony name to telecommunications spokesman in a matter of years. Congrats Tony! Does anyone know how good his english is?
