Doug Davis has Thyroid Cancer

Link

Diamondbacks left-hander Doug Davis has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, team President Derrick Hall confirmed Friday afternoon.

Hall said Davis is planning to make his scheduled start at Chase Field tonight but will address the media at some point today, either before or after.

Davis is expected to make his next few starts, Hall said, before undergoing surgery sometime within the next three weeks.

"We're not sure about the timetable after that," Hall said. "We're deeply saddened and concerned for Doug but we're still in the process of collecting facts and applying that to timing."

Nothing more to say. :-(

Doug Davis
My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Cancer is a very serious subject and plenty of times curable.  I hope and pray that this is Doug and his family's situation.

God only gives you what you can handle.  I pray for the Davis family's grace and intense healing.

God Bless us all.

He'll be back soon
All being well. The Tribune says:
Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Doug Davis has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and is to have surgery April 10 ... eight days after he makes his first start of the season. Davis plans to continue pitching until the surgery, and is expected to miss about a month afterward, his father, Mike, said Friday at Chase Field. "Doug has beaten a lot of things in his life. ... This is probably the worst, but he has come back," Mike Davis said. "He has a great mindset. He wants to start. He wants to do his job. He is very set on this."

Found some comforting words: "The bottom line, most thyroid cancers are papillary thyroid cancer, and this is one of the most curable cancers of ALL cancers that humans get. As we often tell our patients, if you must choose a type of cancer to have, papillary cancer would be your choice. Treat it correctly and the cure rate is extremely high!"

Wow
I hate to hear this news. I've always kind of liked Davis, even though a glacier can outstrip him on the mound. I don't wish cancer on anyone and I am rooting for Doug to make a quick, complete, and thorough recovery, and be back to taking up many long minutes on the mound again. That will be a good thing, as it means all will be well.

Thoughts for the Davis and Snakepit families!

Oh my
How sad. :( I feel for him... he's very brave for continuing his game tonight. My thoughts go to him.

I missed the first 10 minutes of Pregame - was it addressed there?
