Hudson has torn ligament

Diamondbacks second baseman Orlando Hudson said tests performed Thursday revealed a torn ligament in his left thumb and he hopes the injury won't sideline him long.

"Nothing to worry about, just maybe a couple of days," he said.

Hudson, who visited hand specialist Dr. Don Sheridan and underwent an MRI exam, injured the thumb while sliding headfirst into third base in the seventh inning of Tuesday night's game. He was back in the lineup Wednesday night but left that game in the eighth inning, as the injury had worsened.

Hudson, who played in his first All-Star Game this year, said he is determined to return quickly.

"I've got to get in there someway, somehow to help the team win," he said.

Diamondbacks officials declined comment.

"Just maybe a couple of days..."
With a TORN LIGAMENT??

Crap. So much for the postseason... :-(

Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

What's up Doc?
Does seem dubious a torn ligament is going to mean only missing a couple of days. But one never knows. <fingers crossed>

Would like to hear that prognosis from a bonafide doctor, not the energizer bunny incarnate.

It is his left hand
Which has got to be a plus, since it's not his throwing hand, and in the field, would be protected by the glove. At the plate, it might limit his switch-hitting a bit, and he might just have to hit right-handed only, but if you look at how you hold a bat, the thumb doesn't seem to be so critical as other fingers.

maybe we're looking at
a "Rookie of The Year" situation where the ligament heals too tight and suddenly has miraculous home run hitting power.
Tippecanoe and Pena too! (let's hope pena doesn't die after 30 days in office)

or "The Rookie"
and we can convert him to our #5 starter.
Stay grindy, my friends.

...both of which would be nice outcomes.
I think I was probably too quick to say "goodbye, postseason", but I'm still extremely distraught at this development. :-(

Update
Here's an O-Dawg Update.

If you don't want to click through, I can tell you all you need to know: The headline is "Hudson May Need Season-Ending Surgery".

Our only hope is that "may". A final decision is expected Sunday.

Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

Snaps
We need a huge break for us. At least Cirillo or Ojeda having a power surge or something

AP article on the subject
Read here

Interesting quote: Callaspo, who has been sidelined with a strained hamstring, would become the everyday second baseman in Hudson's absence, Melvin said. Callaspo might be ready to start on Saturday, the manager said.

In Magruder's blog that I posted
He said that Bonifacio would get spot starts as well.
