Gameday Thread, #107: 7/29 vs. Braves

Tim Hudson (31, RHP, 10-5, 3.24)
Livan Hernandez (32, RHP, 6-6, 4.59)

BaseballReference .com preview [opens in new window]

Not going to be around much for the next couple of days. As it's Mrs. SnakePit's birthday, we're off to Las Vegas for a couple of days: though I'm taking the laptop, opportunities to blog may be somewhat limited, shall we say! There's no game tomorrow, so that won't be an issue, and I should be back in time to post Tuesday night's Gameday Thread. Not sure if I'll have the chance to post a Fantasy Baseball report this week, but I'm sure you will cope, somehow...

We'll try to run our winning streak to nine today, though Hudson is a tough pitcher to face. He's only allowed four earned runs over his past three starts, covering 22.2 innings. But I can't say more, as Mrs. SnakePit is making tremulous, "we're gonna be late", airport-related sounds in the background, so I guess I'd better go and pack my suitcase. I leave the winning streak in your capable hands, and look forward to seeing it intact when I arrive in Vegas!

Livan's off to a bad start
He's leaving the ball up high and has second and third with no outs.

by LucaMaz3 on Jul 29, 2007 4:46 PM EDT 0 recs

My net connection is awfull
Hope it last through the game.I never feel confident with Livan on the mound.
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

Hmmmm,as I said
3 runs down already,grrrrr.
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

1-0 Atlanta
Hernandez 2.0 would be lucky to get out of the innning with only one run.

by LucaMaz3 on Jul 29, 2007 4:47 PM EDT 0 recs

Damn you Livo!
3-0 Atlanta on Andruw Jones' homer.

by LucaMaz3 on Jul 29, 2007 4:47 PM EDT 0 recs

Greetings from the airport
Just checking in quickly... Not the best of starts for Livan, but if we can get out with only one run allowed, I'll be happy.

Bit of a slug-fest in Houston. The Padres scored eleven in the first...but the Astros having the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, trailing 15-11...

Mrs. SnakePit
Is trying to work out if she can convert his #61 shirt into another number. Do we have a #67 on the roster? :-(

by Jim McLennan on Jul 29, 2007 4:52 PM EDT 0 recs

YEY Byrnes
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

by hotclaws on Jul 29, 2007 4:57 PM EDT 0 recs

Looks like Byrnes
Is probably dirty. :-)

by Jim McLennan on Jul 29, 2007 4:57 PM EDT 0 recs

Byrnes
As much as Byrnes is a showoff and fakes his all-out style sometimes (unneccesary dives, etc.) he is great at stretching the double into the triple.

by LucaMaz3 on Jul 29, 2007 4:57 PM EDT 0 recs

Let's get a 1-2-3 inning
Mrs. SnakePit is readying the shirt for the barbecue...

by Jim McLennan on Jul 29, 2007 5:03 PM EDT 0 recs

Can someone please
Put Julio Franco out of our misery? It would be the kindest thing to do...

by Jim McLennan on Jul 29, 2007 5:04 PM EDT 0 recs

Tim Hudson
can handle the bat really well. Livo had to get a quick 2nd inning with 8,9,1 up.

by LucaMaz3 on Jul 29, 2007 5:04 PM EDT 0 recs

And now the frickin' PITCHER
Gets a hit. It's clearly not Good Livan whom we're seeing today, but his evil twin brother. Easily Hittable Hernandez.

by Jim McLennan on Jul 29, 2007 5:05 PM EDT 0 recs

And now he hits the leadoff guy
Oh, stop, stop... Will the hilarity never cease?

by Jim McLennan on Jul 29, 2007 5:06 PM EDT 0 recs

Okay,
Finally got my formatting switched to HTML mode...

by Jim McLennan on Jul 29, 2007 5:06 PM EDT 0 recs

Thank you for coming
The winning streak is dead</u&gt. I'm going to save my laptop battery for something more interesting. Like Minesweeper. Over and out, folks...

by Jim McLennan on Jul 29, 2007 5:10 PM EDT 0 recs

I'm quite grateful I can barely follow this.
my connection is very spotty.Maybe we can pull back in the later innings when Livan has gone?
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

by hotclaws on Jul 29, 2007 5:17 PM EDT 0 recs

Livo!/The streak is over :- (
I doubt it. Livan has lowered our chances of winning so far by about 40%. I think I'll tune out of this one for a while, with about no chance of winning.

by LucaMaz3 on Jul 29, 2007 5:30 PM EDT 0 recs

I was watching horror films..
...before this game.I must have known I'd need to prepare myself:)
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

Okay
I'm sticking it out, though I'm reading Harry Potter at the same time to take my mind off it.
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

Can this game get any worse?
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

by hotclaws on Jul 29, 2007 6:15 PM EDT 0 recs

I'm trying to see...
...if I can make "Livan Hernandez" into "Lord Voldemort".
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

I'd be checking the bathrooms to see how many are in there ,hanging themselves.
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

by hotclaws on Jul 29, 2007 7:23 PM EDT 0 recs

Slept through this
Can say it was a blessing it seems....better to lose this way though that an agonizing 1 run loss though - gives us all plenty of time to do other things...

by AZDarkKnight on Jul 29, 2007 9:16 PM EDT 0 recs

Wow.
We got raped.
Stay grindy, my friends.

by soco on Jul 29, 2007 11:52 PM EDT 0 recs

What IS this???
I go on vacation for the weekend to New Mexico, and you all allow the Arizona Cardinals to be humiliated by the Atlanta Falcons 14-0?? Errr... oh. Dbacks-Braves. Wow.

In the tradition of baseball superstitions, let's just say that I should stay in the state from now on.

Still, mad props to the Snakes for winning 8 in a row before that. This doesn't tarnish that at all. Not to mention a 6-1 homestand. We're almost as invincible at home as the Brewers, empty seats be damned.

And, since the Dodgers lost, we're STILL tied for first in the division again. What is this, 2002?? :-P

Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

by DbacksSkins on Jul 30, 2007 4:18 AM EDT 0 recs

Hope you had a good time
I will gladly take a 14-0 pounding if we go 6-1 every homestand..Im just glad they didnt spread these runs through the other games we had against them.

It does look like we need some anti apoc. names for todays bullpen though...

by AZDarkKnight on Jul 30, 2007 4:32 AM EDT to parent up 0 recs

Oh and actually...
the team heard Jim was deserting them and couldnt recover, doesnt Mrs Snakepit know not to have a birthday in mid season?? :oP

(Hope you both have fun get to do stuff that has to "stay in Vegas" Jim)

by AZDarkKnight on Jul 30, 2007 4:34 AM EDT to parent up 0 recs

Conversely
I was out of the state since the beginning of the winning streak, and came back yesterday. So you need to stick around and I apparently need to move.
Stay grindy, my friends.

Streak comes to a screeching halt!
Ugh. Had to turn the channel after a while and never turned back. I used to have no faith in Doug Davis, but DD has actually pitched better lately and keeps us in the game. No so with Livan! He looks so lackadaisical out there and doesn't give a hoot how he's pitching.

by TwinnerA on Jul 30, 2007 2:14 PM EDT 0 recs

Best thing about yesterday's game
was when Gracie was promoting his broacasting gig during the upcoming Cubs series towards the end of this month. Gracie was requesting that all who sit up in his area don the appearance of 70's and 80' apparel. The TV production crew Photoshoped Daron Sutten's face on a Boy George album cover and titled the artist rendition as Boy Daron. Gracie probably peed his pants from laughing so hard. He claimed that he had tears of joy from laughing uncontrollably.

The crew also came up with clips of when Gracie pitched in a Dback blow out game in 2002. His pitching stance and cadence reflected the well loved relief pitcher Mike Fetters. Then Gracie served up a long ball to the hitter and as the hitter was rounding the bases between 1 and 2, Gracie was yelling at the batter for taking Gracie yard. I recall this event happening and remembered how we all as fans laughed because there was nothing else to root for during that game.

Those 2 items were the only bit of entertainment for Dback fans, since Livan 2.0 SUCKS!

Maybe we can package both DFAvanon and Livan 2.0 for Assignment!

LiveStrong - wear yellow; the truth is out there (X-Files); "Go with throttle up!" (Challenger Space Heroes); "bababooey to you all!" Howard (Sirius) fan.
