Gameday Thread, #24: 4/27 vs. Giants

Barry Zito, LHP (2-2, 3.70)
Doug Davis, LHP (1-2, 3.27)

Ah, so that's the Zito the Giants paid an eight-figure sum for. After sucking entirely in his first two starts, he's thrown 13+ innings of shutout ball, allowing only seven hits over the past two games. That included 7.1 innings against us last week, in a game which we lost 1-0. Doug Davis is going to need to be pretty good, and the offense is going to need to be a damn sight more productive.

Signs of hope in the latter, at least, last night - seven runs was a level of output not surpassed since Opening Day. Overall, we're scoring barely four runs a game, though that is more than the Giants who have managed only 74 in their twenty contests [that's 3.7 per game]. A low-scoring contest seems likely for tonight: Doug Davis had a good outing last time, and let's just hope Drew and Hudson avoid running into each other tonight...until they high-five each other at the end of the game.

The only thing worst ..
Then stupid women who have no interest in the game being in the seats directly behind the plate is being a douche on a cell phone in those seats ...
Listen to me, I got no reason to lie to you, don't make the same mistakes I made when I was young. F- a lotta women kid, not just one woman, a lotta women.

Even worse than that:
F-ing douches waving to the camera while on those same phones!!

Evening all
Stopped off for a bite to eat with Mrs. SnakePit on the way home at My Big Fat Greek Restaurant: crap name, but great food. 8-) Pleased to see Davis posting zeroes so far, working very carefully round Bonds, but no surprise there.

D'oh!
Can't even get Snyder to scoring position...

Nice hit by Young!
Could have scored a run though, hope the failed bunt doesn't come back to haunt us...

Eight or nine, say...
I could cope with that. :-) The Giants aren't exactly an offensive powerhouse this season, but how many times can we walk Bonds? If it stays a one-run game, we might find out...

by Jim McLennan on Apr 27, 2007 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Good idea
not having Tracy in against Zito.

by DiamondbacksWIn on Apr 27, 2007 10:47 PM EDT reply actions

Tough luck?
I get the impression we are hitting the ball hard, but straight at the fielders.

by singaporedbacksfan on Apr 27, 2007 10:54 PM EDT reply actions

Bonds
I would walk Barry everytime he comes up if I had to.  Don't like him but he is unbelievable with a bat.  Steroids or no he is one of the best hitters of all time.  Unbelievable eye for the ball.  Way too dangerous in a 1-0 game.

K!
Nice strikeout there! Dbacks keep the lead 1 - 0

Win Expectancy
Middle of the fifth, up by one = 73.7%

Five shutout innings from Davis: 90 pitches, so maybe one more?

And the Spankees are getting...well, spanked again tonight. :-)

Gotta love
the yankees about to lose their 7th straight.

6 innings, 1 ER
Great job by Davis, even though giving up a HR when the pitcher is coming up really sux...

Now for our hitters to get Davis the win!

How embarrassing...
To be that guy in the outfield bleachers. Not only do you not catch the home-run ball, you fall over like a drunken bum when throwing a tantrum afterwards.

Tonight's Melvin is an idiot play
Letting Davis go out there and hit for himself with two on and two out. If he doesn't get through this seventh inning, I'm going to be doubly peeved.

Excellent bit of hitting by Drew though: he owns lefties, even Cy Young winners.

Win expectancy: 84.5%

That went about as well as could be hoped...
Still not happy, but have to admit, leaving Bonds in the on-deck circle to lead off the eighth is a perfect scenario.

Phew...
Those last two innings was more a trial of endurance, rather than a pleasure. Had to turn over to watch the last fifteen minutes of Fever Pitch, just to calm down. :-) Still, we'll take it: three in a row, end the Giants' winning streak, beat Zito, and the Dodgers look likely to lose. That'd leave us half a game back - but still in fourth place!

by Jim McLennan on Apr 28, 2007 12:46 AM EDT reply actions

Woot
Dodgers score 4 times in the 9th to win.. Hoffman's second blown save.

This leaves us at third and 1.5 games behind the Dodgers in third. I will rather be 4th and 0.5 games back.

Wild card time
The dodgers may not be reachable, but I hope we can, if not, it looks like we are on tract to be the wild card which is a good goal to reach for 2007 with our young staff continually improving...

Nothing Game Day Related
Just Thought this was hilarious from the Yahoo recap ...

Bonds played in his 2,879th game. The Diamondbacks' eight position players have appeared in 2,048 games combined

and of course, the heartbreaking bullpen couldn't give us a win without some "action" ehaiueaheuiaeaea

glad to beat Zito xD

but the main game is today vs Cain =/ we NEED to score some runs over this guy...
