The Ultimate Sports Social Media Job Contest, Phase 2

Back in the middle of last month, we promoted XFINITY's 'Ultimate Sports Social Media' contest, which promised to give one fan a chance to become a professional Tweeter. This first stage of that's now over, and the survivors from the first round are now available for your amusement through the XFINITY Facebook page. Details of that are after the jump: I look forward to reading aggrieved postings about how much better suited you would be for the position - to which I can only say: "Should have entered, then, shouldn't you?" :-) Still, you can go and vote against anyone wearing a Yankees cap. Or indeed, any cap that's not pointed squarely forward.

Wonder if jinnah lived up to her threat promise to enter?

What Are The 10 Best Things About Being a D'Backs fan?

Photo

'Duk from Big League Stew over on Yahoo! dropped me a line, asking me to chip in the Arizona entry for their upcoming series of "10 Best Things About Being a _____ Fan". Rather than simply churn out the things I think should qualify as being part of that ten best, I figured I'd throw the discussion open to the SnakePit, and see if we can't come up with some kind of communal list. If you want some more details of the sort of thing being sought, and the first ten things that come to my mind, you'll need to click on that 'Read More' link...

OT: Super Bowl Commercial Sunday

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell poses with the Vince Lombardi Trophy after a news conference Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, in Indianapolis. The New England Patriots will face the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5. (AP Photo/David J. Phillip)

This is the open Superbowl thread, intended mostly for discussion of the commercials, e.g. how creepy and sleazy the Go Daddy commercial this year will be. Some mention of the game will be permitted - but don't go overboard, or I will be forced to call 'margin'. :) A quick toss-up of other topics to get this party started, before kick-off at 4:30pm AZ time. .

  • Will you be watching the game? If so, where?
  • What foodstuffs and beverages will be consumed?
  • Any memories from past Super Bowls?
  • Predict the final score today.

Pre-game entertainment in SnakePit Towers will be provided by Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl. My alternative suggestion of the Lingerie Bowl was not well-received for some reason...

OT Sunday: Music

  • What was the first music you bought?
  • What was the first concert you attended?
  • What's the most memorable concert you've been to?
  • How do you listen to music, e.g iPod, Pandora, etc.?
  • Do you listen to the radio? If so, what stations?
  • If you could take only a single song to a desert island, which one would it be?
  • And what one artist?
  • Pick one song to do as karaoke?
  • Do you think music was better "then" than now? If so, when was "then"?
  • Play any instruments or have other musical talent?

OT Sunday: Travel and Vacations

I'm off to Boston for the week, courtesy of work, which has its pluses and minuses - I don't need to pay for much, but won't get much spare time to check out the city. It also means going in January, which is really the last time I want to be going to the North-East; I tried to hold out for summer, or at least baseball season, but my claims I would shatter if exposed to temperatures below 60F were viewed with some skepticism. Oh, well. There will still be content getting posted, hopefully not of the wrong kind. But for today, let's talk about travel and related stuff.

  • Favorite state/country visited
  • Place in the world you'd most like to see
  • Most over-rated destination or sight
  • Longest journey taken
  • Best and worst trips
  • Holiday destinations.
    Urban or rural?
    Beach or mountain?
    Group or solitary?
    Active or slothful?

The Ultimate Sports Social Media Job Contest

I know there are certain SnakePitters out there who are devoted Tweeters, Facebookers or looking to make their way in to the world of sports journalism. Courtesy of XFINITY, we're delighted to present a chance to, basically, Tweet about sports for a living. Which is basically what you're doing now, for free. [Something something Tebow something] And it'd be nice not to have the feed handed over to a Yankees or Red Sox fan, so you're saving the country from that by entering. Details after the jump.

OT Sunday: The Hall Of Fame

Slightly-less off-topic today than usual: if not a Diamondbacks-related query [and it won't be until Randy Johnson shows up on the 2015 ballot!], it is at least about baseball. The results for the 2012 class in the Hall of Fame will be announced tomorrow. For your consideration, here are this year's candidates, along with their career numbers.

  • Who would you vote for this year?
  • What currently active players do you think most likely to be inducted?
  • What do you see as the purpose of the Hall of Fame?
  • Have you been to Cooperstown? If so, what was it like? If not, would you want to go?
  • Attendance at the HoF has dropped almost 25% since 2007. Is it still relevant?
  • Should steroid users be inducted?
  • If yes, should any factors outside performance be used for inclusion?
  • If no, what standard of proof is needed?

More thoughts on this tricky subject after the jump...

OT Sunday: Back at 2011, and forward to 2012

www.allvectors.com under Creative Commons Attribution license.

Despite the timing on this post, I'm not actually sitting in front of my computer as 2011 turns into 2012. I'm probably in the living-room with Mrs. SnakePit and SnakePit Jr. swigging alcohol [all hail the SB Nation post scheduler!] Anyway: so that was 2011 and this was 2012.

  • How was 2011 for you overall? Good, bad, indifferent?
  • What moments will stick most in your mind:
    a) personally
    b) as a Diamondbacks fan
    c) on a national or global level?
  • How did you take in the New Year?
  • What are your New Year's Resolutions?
  • Make three predictions for the 2012 Diamondbacks.
  • As we all know, the world will come to an end on December 21st, 2012 - likely triggered by the Cubs winning the World Series. How do you think the end will happen?
