Last time these two met, the same two pitchers were facing off in Game 5 of the 2011 NLDS, which ended up being a pretty epic confrontation, albeit one which the bad guys won. As ZM pointed out, neither side has exactly set the baseball world on fire in their quests to repeat as champions of the NL Central and West. Both teams will see this as a chance to right the ship and head in the intended direction. Only one will be right.

More than a quarter of the way into the season, we finally get to see the Dodgers here at Chase. They'll still be without Matt Kemp, but as ZM noted in the preview, that didn't stop them from doing a demolition job on the reigning World Series champions over the weekend. LA had a four-game winning streak, having outscored the opposition 26-11 over that time, and have also played competently away from home, winning half of their 18 games. Make no mistake, it won't be easy, but with Kemp gone and the scheduling allowing us to dodge Clayton Kershaw, it could be worse.

This is another of those speculative threads, going up late on the Saturday night, because I'm uncertain what time I'll be surfacing tomorrow morning. Between catching up on the three hours of sleep I ended up short last night, and the season finale of Grimm, I suspect the odds of it being in time to write much and still post this at 10:30am are probably significantly lower than the Diamondbacks' post-season odds.
So there'll be no line-up at this point, Gibby having inexplicably decided not to take my sleeping habits into account. We will, however, be sniggering at the name of the opposing starter. Heheheh - he said "Adcock"... [Update] Line-up added...

A victory today, and Arizona would be assured of a winning road-trip. Which wouldn't be much of a surprise, because going in to this contest, the Diamondbacks are the only team in the NL West in possession of a record above .500 away from home. It's been the dismal performances at Chase, where Arizona are 7-12, that has sunk us in the first quarter of the season. Still, another game in Kansas City, against the Royals and their 4-16 record at home, should hopefully keep things moving in the right direction.
Line-up after the jump, and good to see a familiar face back in his accustomed spot.

Okay, so Kansas City isn't actually in Kansas. This kinda irritates me. Mind you, everything kinda irritates me, since we're getting the A/C replaced at SnakePit Towers [the previous mechanism involving captives, a system of pulleys, and fans proving inadequate], which inexplicably means it's rather hot and nasty in the house today. Still, we will be escaping later on, as we're off to see Rammstein, and the aim is to see The Avengers beforehand [matinee pricing]. At the time of writing, I therefore do not know what the line-up will be, so there will be no witty relabeling of the team, comparing them to Marvel superheroes. Please feel free to do so in the comments.
This thread will also be used to cover Trevor Bauer's first start at Reno for the Aces, which starts at 6:35 pm, so round about the middle of this one. Unless it's another four-hour, bee-invaded epic...

Well, at least the Diamondbacks won't get to spoil your evening today, simply because they are playing in the afternoon. I guess that's an improvement, though we at the SnakePit accept no responsibility for the performances at Coors Field putting you off your dinner tonight. We'll see how Cahill's sinker sinks a mile up, but even in a two-game series, being swept by the Rockies would indeed taste like a mouthful of rocks.

Jamie Moyer made his debut on June 16, 1986, beating the Phillies. The pitcher who opposed Moyer and lost to him on that day, Steve Carlton, is now aged 67. That more or less sums up the amazing longevity on display tonight, who continues to defy Father Time in a way that can only be explained by a very geriatric painting, hanging in a corner of Chez Moyer. Either that, or he's a vampire: anyone checked to see if he has appeared in any day games this season? Still, if he were to crumble into a pile of pitching dust this evening, impaled on a shard of maple, we wouldn't necessarily mind.

A change to the SnakePit roster takes effect today. Due to that old standby, "external life," Marc Fournier is stepping down from his editorial responsibilities - thanks to him for his sterling work on recaps and the "Trending" pieces, during his time with the 'Pit, and we're sure he'll still pop in on occasion, as time permits. Moving up from the minors, is BattleMoses, whose first recap will be taking place this very evening. Hey, if Kevin Towers can talk about changing personnel to break the current streak, so can we on the 'Pit!
