Diamondbacks 1, Mets 3: R.A Dickey's Knuckle Sandwich KO
Record: 14-15. Pace: 78-84. Change on last season: +1
Consider it lucky if you happened to not watch/listen to this one. It started ugly and only got better for about 10 minutes at the end. R.A Dickey decided to channel the souls of every knuckleballer to ever pitch in the MLB and it paid off amazingly as he pitched shutout baseball into the 9th. The Diamondbacks meanwhile decided that getting hits were SO last year and swung at just about everything Dickey threw with no success. Hit the Jump. Now.

How long is Putz's leash?
I just traded Betancourt for Putz and Drew in my fantasy league. I just traded Jeter, Asdrubal, Jennings and Hosmer for Votto and HanRam, so I was in desperate need of a shortstop. I have Ian Desmond in the meantime. How ironic after last night's walk off...
How long is Putz's leash with respect to his closer role? Thanks for reading this lengthy post, it is hard to meet the 75 word requirement.
Cody Ransom - sticking around for a while?
I work for Grand Canyon University and really enjoy the fact that he's a Lope alumni. Last year it was cool that he was even recalled, but this year...man. Do you think he'll be able to maintain what he's been hitting and stick around for a while? If there's any team that can turn utility players into mainstays, it seems to have been the DBacks (Roberts and Bloomquist).
Either way, I'm loving his contribution to the team right now.
Wade Miley for Rookie of the Month?
Does anyone think Wade Miley has a chance to win Rookie of the month? He only allowed two earned runs in April and has been generally impressive.
At the moment I can't think of anyone else that could possibly challenge him for the title. Of course, I would have a hard time naming many rookies that have been around for the whole month. Does anyone know any other rookies who could potentially challenge him for the title?

Diamondbacks 8, Marlins 4: A nice Sunday stroll in the park (and may I say, what an ugly park)
Record: 11-11. Pace: 81-81. Change on last season: +1
Early game for most partying people, not for me though as I was up at 5:30 am letting my dog outside. This game started out at a high pace and kind of dragged on after that. There was a lot to like in this start from Miley, he took a no-hitter into the 6th before finally giving up the first hit to John Buck. The offense didn't do a bad job either, scoring 8 times while having 14 hits. Overall, it was a nice day to be a Diamondbacks fan.

IPK: Rookie Hazing Picture!
While perusing my Tumblr feed last night, I got a wild hair and looked up some Diamondbacks to see if there were pix or fan pages about them and indeed there are! While doing a search for anything on our very own Ian Kennedy, I came acrossed a really amusing picture and saved it to my hard drive so I can share it here with you all...let's just say The Wizard Of Oz will never be the same again!

An invitation from Viva El Birdos
Greetings, Diamondback fans!
We are starting a new feature on Viva El Birdos where we occasionally invite other blogs to join us for a joint game-thread, and we'd like you to come on over for our first game together on May 7th.
Last season, many of us really enjoyed the occasional cross-talk that occurred with members of rival blogs. We found it to be informative on a number of levels, and appreciated hearing other perspectives, while sharing our own. This year, we’ve decided to make this a semi-regular organized feature of our blog.
There will be a separate gamethread just for this purpose, and it will be a neutral environment. In other words, you'll have the same rights that we do. In the event that you feel as if you are being trolled by one of our members, simply flag the comment and it will be addressed by a moderator. Similarly, you will be locked out if you troll us. However, feel free to ask any question you like, even challenging ones. Just do so in a respectful manner.
Perfectly fine: How can you guys like Chris Carpenter so much? He seems like a jerk.
Not fine: Chris Carpenter is a baby-killer and an a**hole. I hate that douche-nozzle.
Oh, and e*ls entertain us. Just sayin’.
If you are interested, please join our website soon as there is a 48-hour waiting period before you can post. Also, please familiarize yourself with the VEB community guidelines here. We tend to be a very relaxed group.
Anyway, come on over and play. Our moms said it was okay as long as we promise not to break anything. I’ll put up a link to the gamethread in the comments here on the 7th,
Let me know if you have any questions.

Video Packages
I am a huge fan of the short video packages that are played during some D-Backs games showing highlights. The video tonight, 4/23/2012, featured "Blood and Fire" by Van Halen. I love these videos and would like to share them with friends and fellow fans on my Facebook page, but I'm not sure if they are availible. I checked the video section of the official D-Backs site with no luck. Does anybody know if they are even availible? It would be a shame if they are just one-off showings...
Diamondbacks 6, Braves 4: Breakin' the skid
Record: 8-8. Pace: 81-81. Change on last season: 0
With Gerardo Parra swinging a big stick and strong defense behind a good but not great outing from Ian Kennedy, the DBacks avoided the 4 game sweep at the hands of the Braves with a 6-4 victory on a slightly scorching Sunday afternoon in downtown Phoenix. Not exactly the type of game you'd expect to win when you're in the midst of a 5 game skid, but the DBacks will most assuredly take the victory as they happily say goodbye and good riddance to the Braves and welcome in the Philadelphia Phillies for a 3 game series starting tomorrow, looking to improve upon the ugly 2-5 record they've accumulated this current homestand.
