Well, that certainly sounds like Goldie, doesn’t it? He went on to mention that players “get to know those guys on such a personal level, you’re around them every day for eight months of the year and get to know their family - you know so much about them.” That’s an angle we, as fans, probably don’t think about often enough. We’ve a tendency to regard managers and GM’s as pieces on a chess-board, and players as defined by their statistics. They’re human beings too, not sport-playing automatons [as is clear if you watched Daniel Hudson’s interview after the last game!]
Interestingly, however, Goldschmidt is entirely content to let those in charge make the decisions, and trusts whoever that is. “They’re putting in so much time and effort, nobody’s just flipping a coin and making decisions about who they are going to hire or what trades are going to be made. To think as a player that you can come in an think you know more than somebody else who’s taken hours and hours is kinda foolish. I just try to focus on my job.” You can check out the full interview from The Drive on FOX Sports 910 Phoenix. In it, Goldschmidt reviews the season, both as an individual and as a team, and who would win if you lined up the entire team for a 40-yard dash...
