Rockies 8, Diamondbacks 3: Swept Away In Denver

Doug Pensinger

Record: 62-94. Pace: 64-98. Change on 2013/2010: -17/-2.

Wade Miley took the mound for the Diamondbacks today for the fourth and final game of this series in the Mile High City of Denver versus our Salt River Fields Brothers, the Colorado Rockies. Miley's opponent for this mound match-up was none other than Rockies rookie pitcher Christian Bergman. Wade was not on top of his game, however, as he only went 4.1 innings, in which he gave up 8 hits, 4 walks, and 6 runs total, all of which were earned. Can we say "OUCH!"

Randall Delgado took over in place of Miley, and didn't help the cause either. He had inherited three runners and two of them came in to score. Also participating in this crapstorm were Matt Stites, giving up 2 runs in the seventh inning, and Eury De La Rosa, who had a 3-strikeout inning.

Turn the page to the Diamondbacks offense, where Mark Trumbo had himself one hell of a game, slapping 2 home runs on the day at The Keg aka Coors Field...one off starter Christian Bergman in the 6th inning and the other later in the 9th inning off reliever Juan Nicasio. This was Trumbo's first-ever multi-homer game as a Diamondback, by the way. Also, Trumbo was the only Diamondback to reach base more than once in the game. This sweep by the Rockies was the 6th consecutive loss for the Diamondbacks in a matter of days. Sorry to say, that 100-loss mark is not that far away now.

The only home run for the Rockies today was hit by the hot-hitting Michael Cuddyer in the 7th inning off Matt Stites.

This concludes the Rockies home games for 2014, as they head to San Diego to take on the Padres and then finish the season off in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, while our Diamondbacks head to Minneapolis, Minnesota to take on the Twins at Target Field, and then come home to end the season against Matt Holliday and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Comment Of The Day goes to onedotfive, referring to the umps wanting to get the season done after a bad call was issued by them:

even the umps are phoning it in

Not one shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious.

Close at the top, with only two posts separating first (Rockkstarr12), second (hotclaws) and third (me). Also present at this sad excuse for a baseball game were: AzDbackfanInDc, Clefo, GuruB, Jim McLennan, JoeCB1991, Makakilo, MrMrrbi, SenSurround, onedotfive and shoewizard. CotD was already given above, so I just have to add, it's on to Minnesota and the Twins for the team. Josh Collmenter takes on the Twins in the opener of our last road series, which starts tomorrow night at 5:10pm, if my time-zones are correct.
