We traded Brandon McCarthy for a former independent league pitcher that most people agreed wasn't going to figure in to the team's plans very long term. Tonight, we got Vidal Nuño: Ace pitcher. And it was glorious. He basically spent seven innings making he sat the side down in order in the third, fifth, and seventh innings. Each 1-2-3 inning had at least one strike out. For his first outing as a Diamondback, Nuño went seven innings (a career high), only three hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts, also a career high. It was the kind of start you always hope for from your starter.
The offense was... less than good, to be honest. Brad Hand shut them down tonight. Any other night, he gets the win. The Dbacks did peg him for one run, however. It came in the fifth. Nuño started the inning off by reaching on an error by Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee. Ender Inciarte moved him to second on a single, and then Nuño was brought home thanks to another single, this time off the bat of Aaron Hill. That was basically everything that the Dbacks managed on the night, as far as offense went. And it wouldn't be enough
After Nuño pitched the first seven, Zielger pitched the eighth and, thanks to his trademarked double play, only faced three batters. It looked like, as flimsy as it was, the one run lead was going to hold up. Then Addison Reed came into pitch. It didn't start off well. He walked the first batter he faced. Something, something, lead off walks. Then, somehow, he managed to strike out Giancarlo Stanton, and McGehee lined out to center. Two outs. He got to two strikes on Marcell Ozuna, and then gave up a home run to center field. 2-1 Marlins. The Dbacks went quietly into the night after a 1-2-3 ninth.
Wants to go back to NYC: Vidal Nuño, +44.2%
Addison Reed: Addison Reed, -65.9%
Comment of the Day... So many choices... But what better choice than this predictive gem?
What better way to welcome Vidal Nuno to the Diamondbacks
Than having Addison Reed blow his first win?

No television tomorrow for the 12:40 start time. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch Torchwood, a television show with strong horror notes that still will not replicate the feelings of horror I get when Addison Reed is brought into the ball game.
