Diamondbacks 3, Braves 1

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona staved off the sweep, as a two-run home-run from Paul Goldschmidt and a solid performance from Wade Miley, brought the latter his first W since May 10.

It was a day of limited offense for the Diamondbacks, who scored their three runs on only five hits. The big blow came in the third, after a walk to the on-base machine known as Wade Miley led things off. Two outs later, Paul Goldschmidt came up and cranked the ball down the left-field line, where it clanged off the foul-pole for a two-run homer, his 16th of the season. He also doubled and walked, extending his on-base streak to 26 games. An insurance run was tacked on in the ninth, as pinch-hitter Nick Evans drove in Martin Prado with a double.

Miley on the mound, was extremely solid, allowing one run over 6.2 innings on five hits and a walk, with eight strikeouts, and improved his record to 4-6. He was helped by the Braves going 1-for-7 on the day with runners in scoring position. Evan Marshall notched the final out of the seventh inning, Brad Ziegler stranded two the tying run on third in the eighth, and Addison Reed worked a scoreless ninth for his 20th save of the season, allowing a lead-off hit, but ending the game by rolling up a double-play.

The D-backs return home for a quick three-game set against the Marlins, before hitting the road again. First pitch tomorrow night is 6:40 pm. Full recap might be a bit, so have at it.
