Diamondbacks 4, Braves 10

Scott Cunningham

Things looked promising early for the Diamondbacks, but that didn't last. A five-run fourth gave the Braves the lead for good, and there was precious little to cheer about, as the entire nation got to see why we have the worst record in baseball.

The D-backs took advantage of some sloppy defense by the home team, and also got a call overturned at first base on replay, as they scored three times in the first, on hits by Paul Goldschmidt, Miguel Montero and Gerardo Parra. However, that was virtually it for the offense, and the only run Arizona could add over the following eight innings, was Ender Inciarte's first major-league homer, a solo shot in the fifth. Goldschmidt;s hit did extend his on-base streak to 26 games, and Montero had three hits on the afternoon, while Parra had a couple, as well as a walk.

It was far from enough, however. Mike Bolsinger didn't get through four innings, though wasn't helped by a strange decision from manager Kirk Gibson not to challenge another play at first in that fourth. Bolsinger was smacked around a lot, allowing 10 hits and two walks in 3.2 innings, with five of the seven runs allowed being earned. The B-bullpen mopped up the rest of the way, in the shape of Randall Delgado, Matt Stites and new arrival Eury de la Rosa, who was charged with a run in his two innings of work.

We will once again be trying to avoid the sweep tomorrow, with Wade Miley going for us, and Alex Wood starting for the Braves.
