Seems a very long time since the D-backs last played. In fact, I guess that makes this their longest undefeated spell since they had a couple of weeks between defeats - for similar, non-playing reasons, after catching the plane back from Sydney. How long this success (okay, lack of failure is probably closer to it) will last into the second half of the season, we'll see - but at least we get a nice soft start to the schedule with three games against the Cubs, who are virtually every bit as woeful as us. If we take two of three, we'll overtake them in the standings. Or, if you're on the Tankapalooza side, we need to lose two of three to stay ahead of the Cubbies.
The return of Cahill to the line-up this evening probably works more as a boost to the Tankapalooza crowd than the fans hoping for success. It seems that his call-up was more a pre-scheduled event, rather than any genuine indication that Cahill has addressed the control issues which plagued him, leading to his removal from the Arizona rotation, and eventually accepting a minor-league assignment. His last two starts for the Aces covered 9.1 innings, and resulted in 11 walks, hardly a result calculated to inspire confidence. But I suspect, regardless of results, we're going to see Cahill every five days the rest of the way.
