Hey Arizona Diamondback fans!
Being a Toronto Blue Jays fan (and avid frequenter of SBNation's BlueBirdBanter), I've been sifting through rosters recently looking for potential upgrades (at a non-prohibitive cost) to the Blue Jays starting rotation, and I'd be lying if I said I wan't interested in Brandon McCarthy.
McCarthy is currently running out a ridiculous 20.5% HR/FB %, completely bludgeoning some otherwise impressive lines of production. His K% (21.4%) is a career high so far, as well as his K-BB% (17.2%), and his ground-ball percentage is at a career-high 55%. Most impressively, The 2015 unrestricted free agent is experiencing some velocity gains that are not entirely insignificant. His average fastball velocity is at 92.8 miles per hour with his sinker, more than 2 miles per hour faster than his average fastball velocity from a year ago.
As you all well know, when your home team plays in a park that exhibits a high-run scoring environment (Chase Field and Rogers Center), having starting pitchers who can simultaneously get ground balls, not allow walks, and get a fair amount of strike outs becomes all the more important. The Blue Jays and Diamondbacks currently play in the 3rd and 5th most favorable ballparks to hit home runs, so the incentive to get ground-ball heavy pitchers is something that can be appreciated among both Jays and Snakes fans (seeing as ground-balls go for home runs less often than their troublesome fly-ball counterparts).
I have many questions, so I might as well get to em'! 1) Is Brandon McCarthy available? 2) What are your impressions of McCarthy so far this year (seeing as I haven't been able to watch him consistently, and you all have been able to watch, for better or worse, much more closely than I have)? 3) What type of return would you consider fair and reasonable for Brandon McCarthy (however broad or specific you'd like to be)? 4) Are the Diamondbacks prepared to re-tool in the coming weeks, or are are there still hopes of playoff aspirations (I mean this with all due respect)?
Anyway, I'd love to hear your feedback, and thank you for taking time out of your days to read this. Coincidentally, I have hopes of moving to the Phoenix area in the coming months/years/difficult to approximate future, so I hope you'll have room in Chase Field for an avid baseball fan. I've been to the area on a couple occasions and loved it!
Unrelated, but if you're tired of Aaron Hill, we over at BlueBirdBanter won't be upset at the notion of bringing a former Blue Jay. :) cheers!
