Reno Starters ERA since 2009:  YUCK!

Mike Bolsinger. Best pitcher in Reno since 2009. Fact. - Christian Petersen

The D Backs AAA affiliate moved into Reno in 2009. We talk a lot more about the effect of Reno on hitting numbers than we do pitching numbers. Of course it's often mentioned what a meat grinder it is for pitchers, but I haven't seen that quantified yet on the site. I haven't done the heavy lifting to create a MLB equivalency for the Reno numbers. Maybe if I send the spreadsheet I have to Jim he can do that ;)

But I thought it would be interesting for some to see the tables I am looking at.

What I did was look at starting pitchers with a minimum of 60 IP, (30 IP for 2014 since season only half over)

Here is the table , sorted by lowest ERA

Not surprisingly, guys with the lowest ERA tend to be guys that had a much lower ERA than FIP. Thats often the case, even in MLB. The same is true in reverse.

Just 2 seasons with an ERA below 3, and one of them is Bolsinger in just 9 starts. The other Bauer, had a FIP 1 run higher than his ERA.

There are just 14 seasons with an ERA under 5.00 ! And one of those is Zach Koenke's where half the 97 innings he threw were out of the pen. (But he actually was much better in the rotation then the Pen that season)

Here is the same list ranked by FIP

Obviously we gave up on Tyler Skaggs and Randy Wolf MUCH too soon. ;)
