Cahill's second minor-league outing was much like his first for Visalia. One really bad inning, the rest not so bad. In the first, he struck out the side around a two-out walk. However, in the second, he allowed three hits, including a three-run homer, as Oklahoma City scored four times. Then, in his third and final inning, it was two ground outs and a strikeout. So, the final line was three hits and a walk, in three innings, with four runs allowed, three earned, and five K's. Pretty much "work in progress" continues here. Cahill threw a total of 56 pitches tonight, so is clearly being stretched out a bit.

Triple A Reno 2, Oklahoma City 4. Cahill's outing was described above, and was enough to doom the Aces, as the offense proved remarkably unclutch, going 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. They outhit the RedHawks 10-6, with 2B Tyler Bortnick getting three hits, and 1B Nick Evans doubling, walking and driving in both of Reno's runs. After Cahill left the game, Lucas Harrell pitched well in relief, throwing four shutout innings on two hits and two walks, striking out four.
Double-A Mobile are on their All-Star break. The Southern League All-Star Game took place tonight, with a number of BayBears players taking part. Starting 3B Jake Lamb was 1-for-3, and he was replaced by teammate Sean Jamieson, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI. 1B Jon Griffin went 1-for-5. Mike Lee worked 0.2 scoreless innings in relief, as the South All-Stars beat the North All-Stars, 6-4.
High-A Visalia were similarly idle, with the California League playing the Carolina League. Our boys came out on top 3-2, with starter Brandon Drury, hitting clean-up for California, going 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Class-A Short Hillsboro 5 @ Everett 3. The Hops jumped out early [hohoho], scoring single runs in the first and second on a wlid pitch and RBI groundout. But a three-run fifth for the AquaSox put them ahead, until Hillsboro responded with a three-run seventh, featuring three successive bunts. SS Nate Robertson doubled and singled, and LF Grant Heyman had a pair of singles. Starter Scott Schultz threw three scoreless innings on two hits and a walk with a strikeout. Dustin Loggins struck out five over his two frames.
Rookie Missoula 2 @ Helena 9. The Osprey entered the bottom of the eighth with a 2-1 lead, but it all went pear-shaped as the Brewers scored eight off three different Missoula pitcher, with Wagner Mateo taking the brunt, failing to retire any of the six batters faced, with three walks and two wild pitches. That wasted a fine outing by Brad Keller who allowed only an unearned run over five innings. 1B Jake Mayers and RF Dane McFarland each had two singles and SS Sergio Alcantara walked twice.
Rookie DSL D-backs 5, Orioles1 1. Emilio Vargas is making an impression with our Dominican affiliate, improving to a perfect 3-0 after seven innings today, giving up one unearned run, striking out seven and walking none. His ERA is 1.59 after 17 total innings. On offense, DH Gerson Jimenez doubled and walked, while RF Francis Martinez singled, walked and drove in a pair of runs.
