Game #70: Diamondbacks @ Dodgers

Norm Hall

Last time Clayton Kershaw faced off against Chase Anderson, it was a massacre of epic proportions. Only, it was the Dodgers' ace, rather than our rookie, who got their clock cleaned. Will tonight be a repeat performance?

Clayton Kershaw
LHP, 5-2, 3.17

Diamondbacks Lineup

  1. Chris Owings - SS
  2. Gerardo Parra - RF
  3. Paul Goldschmidt - 1B
  4. Aaron Hill - 2B
  5. Martin Prado - 3B

  7. Tuffy Gosewisch - C
  8. David Peralta - CF
  9. Chase Anderson - P

At the beginning of the season, probably only the hardest of hardcore fans knew who Chase Anderson was. But, here we are, in mid-June and he not only has the same number of wins as reigning Cy Young champion Clayton Kershaw, Anderson also has the better ERA. Chalk it up to the power of prayer, maybe? If you follow Anderson on Twitter, you'll know what I mean there. But, hey: even a skeptic like me isn't going to challenge what has clearly been working very, very well for Anderson. Can the magic of faith carry him and the Diamondbacks through a second outing against one of the best pitchers in the National League?

No Montero, which would normally have me grumbling, but he has basically been owned by Kershaw, with a .207 average, and no walks or home-runs, but 11 K's in 29 PAs. So, putting Tuffy in might not be so bad: Gosewisch is 1-for-1 lifetime. :) Prado is even worse, being 4-for-27, a line of .148/.179/.148; even Goldie is only hitting at the Uecker Line, but does own the only home-run off Kershaw by a current Diamondback. Ross has perhaps the best numbers of anyone in the line-up, at 8-for-23. but is hitless in two appearances this year since his hip injury, so we'll see how that works out.

I'm not exactly optimistic: but as we saw last time (which, coincidentally, I was also recapping), you can't predict baseball, and that's why they play the games. Go, Chase what matters...
