OFFICIAL: #Dbacks select the contract of outfielder David Peralta from the Double-A @Mobile_BayBears and place A.J. Pollock on the 15-day DL
— Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) June 1, 2014
To replace A.J. Pollock, the Diamondbacks have called up outfielder David Peralta from Mobile. To make room on the 40-man roster, pitching guru Matt Reynolds has been moved from the 15-day to the 60-day Disabled List. In case you missed it, Pollock fractured his right hand after being hit by a pitch from Johnny Cueto in last night's game against the Reds.
The left-handed hitting and throwing Venezuelan Peralta was a pitcher in the Cardinals organization in 2006 and 2007, but he was sidelined by injures. He resurfaced in the independent North American Baseball League in 2011 as an Outfielder. The Diamondbacks picked him up in 2013 and placed him in Visalia where he hit .346/.370/.534. Thus far in Mobile, he is hitting .297/.359/.480 with 6 Home Runs.
The 26-year old Peralta will be starting in Left Field and batting 7th today against Cincinnati.
