Wade Miley wasn't quite as good as Arroyo or McCarthy the past couple of days, but was still serviceable enough. He allowed a total of three runs over seven innings, on six hits and a walk, with four strikeouts - the key blow was a two-run double to Padres' catcher Rene Rivera in the fourth. After a scoreless inning from Randall Delgado kept things tied after eight, Kirk Gibson went to Oliver Perez, but a bang-bang play at first, initially called out, was reversed on appeal. One out later, Rivera clubbed the ball over Gerardo Parra's head for a double, putting the winning run at third. Perez then opted to try and strike out a left-handed batter. It didn't work out too well.
The Diamondbacks couldn't take advantage of a trio of Padres errors, but did score three times in their half of the fourth inning. Paul Goldschmidt got his fifth home-run of the year, and Tuffy Gosewisch drove in two runs with a single later in the same inning. Goldschmidt and Parra each had a pair hits for Arizona, Goldie also drawing a walk. The team now moves on to Milwaukee for a three-game series which starts tomorrow. Mike Bolsinger will take on Matt Garza in the opener, with a first pitch of 5:10pm, Arizona time. preston.salisbury will be along in a little while with the detailed recap, so stick around for that.
