Game #54: Diamondbacks vs. Padres

Dilip Vishwanat

Tonight will mark the completion of the first third of the Diamondbacks season. It hasn't gone well, but it is looking better than it did a month ago.

Eric Stults
LHP, 2-5, 4.97

Wade Miley
LHP, 3-5, 4.85

Diamondbacks Lineup

  1. A.J. Pollock - CF
  2. Gerardo Parra - RF
  3. Paul Goldschmidt - 1B
  4. Miguel Montero - C
  5. Martin Prado - 3B
  6. Aaron Hill - 2B
  7. Cody Ross - LF
  8. Cliff Pennington - SS
  9. Wade Miley - P

Though the team is facing a left-hander today, there is surprisingly little change in the line-up or batting order compared to yesterday. We basically add Hill, and drop Chris Owings, with Pennington moving over to short. Quite surprised to see Parra and Montero in the top four, considering how they've struggled against left-handed pitching this season. Gerardo is hitting .143 (6-for-42) with a .448 OPS, and Montero's line is worse still, with a .390 OPS, albeit in only 39 PAs. Our left-handers as a group have collectively struggled, with a line of .155/..214/.194, and one HR (by Parra) in 113 PAs against LHP. We'll see if Stults is the cure for what ails them tonight.

As noted, after this game, we'll be at the one-third point of the season. I guess that means I should crank up the next 'Place Your Best...' update for later in the week [maybe Thursday, maybe Saturday]. Having gone 8-19 over the first sixth, the Diamondbacks have recovered significantly, and going into the final game of the second sextile [huhuhuhuh... He said "sex"...], we possess a 13-13 record, so be nice to win this one and get above .500 for that stretch. It'd also be our fourth victory in a row at Chase Field, which would certainly be an improvement, given how badly we played here early on.

Turambar will be bringing you a beercap, rescheduled from Friday night in New York. He won't have to contend with work for this one, so that works all around.
