Diamondbacks 2, Mets 1

Hits with runners in scoring position? They're vastly over-rated...

Chris Owings put the Diamondbacks on the board first, his third home-run of the year coming with one out in the first. Bronson Arroyo gave the run straight back, on three singles to open the bottom half, but escaped further damage with the aid of a double-play - one of five turned by the Diamondbacks on the day. He and Mets starter Rafael Montero settled down, both throwing six innings of one-run ball. Montero struck out 10, but took 113 pitches; Arroyo struck out only one, requiring only 75 pitches. He was lifted for pinch-hitter Cody Ross with two outs in the seventh and a runner on third, but Ross struck out.

That was pretty much the tone of the day, as we went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. However, the Mets were arguably worse still, going 1-for-13 with, as noted, five double-plays. The biggest probably came in the eighth, with the bases loaded and one out, but friend of the Diamondbacks Lucas Duda hit one straight to Goldie, who came home for the force, before Montero fired back to complete the inning. Arizona scratched a run across in the top of the ninth, on a Mets error, scoring A.J. Pollock, and Addison Reed closed things out, despite putting two men on base with one out.

Xipooo will be along with the full recap in a bit. Might take me a little while to post it on the front-page, since I have to go to the supermarket now. But don't go anywhere, as the stream for Game 2 will be up momentarily... Let's go for the sweep!
