Diamondbacks 5, Rockies 3

Justin Edmonds

Wade Miley has both the D-backs wins this season, a very solid eight inning outing in Coors paving the way for us to salvage the series finale. Completing a fine day, he also had three hits.

The Diamondbacks jumped out first, scoring twice in the third inning on a ball by Paul Goldschmidt which clanked off the glove of the Colorado 3B, allowing A.J. Pollock and Aaron Hill to score. The first of Miley's hits drove in our third run in the fourth, and a two-run Trumbomb extended the lead to 5-0 in the fifth. It was Mark Trumbo's fourth consecutive game with a HR, the fifth Arizona hitter to do that (most recently Mark Reynolds in August 2009; Troy Glaus did it twice and Reggie Sanders once). As well as Miley, Hill, Goldschmidt and Prado each had multi-hit games, with Trumbo reaching base three times, on two hits and his homer.

Meanwhile, Wade Miley was pitching a storm, helped out by his defense turning double-plays behind him as needed. He allowed single runs in the fifth and seventh, but was solid, holding the Rockies to seven hits and two walks, with two strikeouts. At 93 pitches, he could have gone for the complete game, but Addison Reed likely needed the work. Our closer made it interesting, as the first two Colorado hitters reached, bringing the tying run to the plate with no outs. But he generated our fifth double-play of the day, and then got an easy fly-ball to Trumbo for the final out, ending our losing streak at four, and improving our record to 2-7.

azcougs will be along with the detailed recap later. It's an off-day for the D-backs tomorrow, and we resume in San Francisco on Tuesday, Trevor Cahill taking on Tim Hudson. What could possibly go wrong?
