Diamondbacks 5, Cubs 2

Brian Kersey

The Diamondbacks tied their season high, by winning their second consecutive game, beating the Cubs 5-2 at Wrigley to earn a split of the four-game series and finish the roadtrip 3-4. Mike Bolsinger worked 6.2 innings and allowed an unearned run, for his first major-league W.

The D-backs scored in the first, but it looked very unpromising for Bolsinger as he allowed a run - thanks in part to Roger Kieschnick having an inauspicious debut in left - and loaded the bases with one out. However, he escaped without further damage, and seemed to grow stronger as the day went on. He delivered that rare beast, a quality start, working 6.2 innings and allowed just the unearned run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. After he left, the bullpen closed things out, though Oliver Perez allowed a solo homer. Addison Reed worked a perfect ninth for his fifth save.

The offense took advantage of former Diamondback Edwin Jackson, Miguel Montero opening the scorebook with an RBI double in the first. Tony Campana and Bolsinger each had hits in the second to drive in a run apiece, and we added some insurance in the eighth, Paul Goldschmidt with an RBI double and Montero with a single. Gerardo Parra reached base three times, on two hits and a walk, while Miggy had a pair of hits and drove in two. Kieschnick made no friends, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, in addition to his error.

Arizona now returns home, and starts a three-game series against the Phillies at Chase tomorrow night.
