Diamondbacks 1, Dodgers 4

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Once again, over the other eight innings, we outscored Los Angeles, but one bad inning - a four-run sixth - condemned the D-backs to a second defeat, losing them the series against the Dodgers

The Joshs - our Collmenter and their Beckett - engaged in a very solid pitching duel through five innings, matching each other zero for zero. The Diamondbacks could get almost nothing off Beckett, who held us to one hit and two walks, with seven strikeouts. But Collmenter was every bit as good over the same time-frame, with two hits and a walk. Unfortunately, it then fell apart in the sixth, first on an RBI triple by Carl Crawford, and then after a two-out intentional walk to Adrian Gonzalez, the Puig hit a three-run homer. On a day like this, with our offense again sputtering, the four runs might as well have been forty.

We did get on the board and brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, with an RBI double by Eric Chavez giving us men on second and third with one out. But that was the last of our three hits on the day, with Mark Trumbo and Tony Campana both striking out. The side was K'd in the ninth, giving us a total of 14 strikeouts on the afternoon, a high on the 2014 season. Miguel Montero reached twice, on a hit and a walk. The Diamondbacks now head for the team nearest them in the NL basement, the Chicago Cubs, with a four-game set getting under way at Wrigley Field tomorrow. azshadowwalker will be along with the detailed recap in a bit.
