Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 2: The team that went up a Hill and came down a mountain.

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

The D'Backs snapped a six game losing streak against the Dodgers tonight, but it wasn't for lack of trying.

It has been awhile since the Diamondbacks have won a game. It feels so long that you could almost envision one of those graphics they show where it says "THE LAST TIME THE DIAMONDBACKS WON A GAME THESE ARE THINGS" and it shows who the President was, what the #1 song was, the price of a gallon of gas, etc. After not winning a game at home for some reason, the D'Backs thought they could do so on the road against a team they have yet to beat this season. Seems legit.

Wade Miley and the disliked Zack Greinke were the two pitching combatants this game, and both were on point. Both had two walks in a row in the first inning that were erased by groundouts. Both only allowed one earned run on solo home runs. Miley had a secretary named Greinke and...

The first scoring of the game came in the top of the 6th. Miguel Montero smashed a dinger to center field off of Greinke to make it 1-0 Diamondbacks. This was Miggy's second dinger of the season, and is another piece of evidence that maybe he's figured it out a little bit at the plate at least (defense is another thing, but let's celebrate what we have, people.)

Before the next paragraph, I am going to draw attention and shame this now-hidden comment from the GDT:

Any bets on which pitcher will give up the three-run homer to Scott Van Slyke?

u kno dat make me throw up

Miley got through six scoreless innings, but had over 100 pitches. This felt like a good time to take him out, bullpen struggles aside you don't want to leave your default best starter out to dry. However, in the top of the 7th, he hit for himself and grounded out. He then started out on the mound in the bottom of the inning. The second pitch that leadoff hitter Scott Van Slyke saw was a pitch that ended up in homer land to tie the game. J.J. Putz came in immediately afterward and got three straight outs, so good job on the managing thing, Gibby.

Miggy drew a leadoff walk to start the 9th inning against Dodger reliever Chris Withrow. Tony Campana came in to pinch run and he did his thing. He immediately stole second base. He advanced to third on a groundout by Cody Ross. The Dodgers decided that walking Martin Prado with one out to set up a potential double play would be a good idea. Chris Withrow thought that throwing an intentional walk pitch to the backstop was a better idea, and Campana scored, making it 2-1.

Now, all Addison Reed had to do was get three outs and win the game. He got three outs, but did not win the game, as between outs 1 and 2, Juan Uribe hit a game-tying solo home run. We head into extra innings, as we are wont to do.

The Dodgers threatened in the 10th, but the combination of Randall Delgado and Joe Thatcher kept that noise down. Thatcher also pitched a 1-2-3 11th. What A Joke.

The 12th began with an A.J. Pollock double off of Chris Perez. Pinch Hitter Cliff Pennington was hit by a pitch, so obviously Chris Perez is satan himself and must be suspended for all the games for being such a hitty pitcher, so says the wise oracle of solid and not wavering wisdom of Dodger fans. In either case, Gerardo Parra followed this was a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over, and Aaron Hill dropped a single into Right-Center and scored both runners to make it 4-2. That was all the scoring that inning (After a weird 9-4 putout and Paul Goldschmidt being caught stealing). The recently demoted Trevor Cahill came in for the save and.... got a 1-2-3 inning for his first career save. Huh.

Cody Ross made his first appearance off the DL and went 0-5, just as a final note to this game.

Of Merit: Miggy, (+28.4%), Campana (+25.9%), Thatcher (+17.0%)

Aaron Hill had the game winning RBIs and still had a negative WPA, just as a note.

No COTN tonight, as no comment had more than two recs.

These teams play tomorrow, if that is a thing you think would be worth watching.
