Diamondbacks 6, Dodgers 8

Christian Petersen

Despite home-runs from Mark Trumbo and Eric Chavez, the Grand Canyon-like yawning chasm dug by another rancid start from Trevor Cahill was too deep for the offense, and the Dodgers completed the sweep of the D-backs at Chase Field.

Trevor Cahill is now a serious problem. That much is apparent after his latest awful start, which began with a walk to the first batter faced, continued through a three-run homer to D-backs killer (Los Angeles branch), Adrian Gonzalez and finally ended, for the third time in four games, without Cahill recording an out in the fifth inning. His control was woeful, Cahill walking five in four innings, and the Dodgers took full advantage, scoring seven runs off Cahill on only five hits - he did strike out eight, but his ERA increased to 9.17, as the Dodgers took a 7-3 lead at the half-way point.

Arizona actually outhit the visitors over the game, by a margin of 13 to 7, but as has been their standard practice this season, struggled again with runners in scoring position, going 2-for-16. Eric Chavez got his first home-run of the year, in a three-run third, and the sixth #Trumbomb of the year, a three-run shot in the seventh, narrowed the deficit to 8-6. We got the tying run to the plate with no outs in the eighth, but were unable to pull any closer. Gerardo Parra had three hits (and also threw Dan Haren out at first!), Chavez, A.J. Pollock and Chris Owings each had two.

Moranall will be along with the full recap, but he's visiting relations, so it might be a little later. The D-backs get no break, facing the Mets in the first of a three-game series at Chase Field tomorrow night.
