Game #14: Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers

Justin Edmonds

Will we ever beat LA again? After we failed miserably in this department last night, Wade Miley gives it his best shot this evening at Chase Field.

The heroes of Thursday night's extra-innings win in San Francisco get a quick recall, with A.J. Pollock and Chris Owings again dropped to the bench. Difficult to single those two out for particular criticism, considering Pollock did reach base twice on walks, and the entire team outside of Montero went ohfer the evening. I think it's probably more that those are the ones who have the most obvious candidates to replace them, with a right-handed pitcher on the mound. [Eric Chavez presumably being ineligible, having been refrozen and returned to his cryotank, after starting earlier in the week]

So it's to be Josh Collmenter starting for the Diamondbacks on Monday. Curious to see how that goes: there's evidence which you can take to either conclusion, either that he'll be fine or that he'll suck. Eight innings isn't a great sample size on which to judge Delgado, but the results were so bad [10.13 ERA, 2.88 WHIP] that it's hard to argue he should be given the benefit of the doubt. Depending on what Collmenter does, it might be a while before Delgado gets to start again, especially if Archie Bradley continues to put up good numbers for Reno. Indeed, not certain Delgado has much future in Arizona. Maybe we should have gone for Julio Teheran after all.

But let's worry about that when we get to it. Tonight, we ask Miley to carry the team on his back once again, and stop the losses before there's any chance of a further long streak. We also need just about everyone on the offense to show up a lot more than they did last night, and work some magic against a man whom I would venture to suggest is probably the most-disliked pitcher in the majors among Diamondbacks fans. Tattooing him all around Chase Field would be very pleasant indeed.
