Diamondbacks 2, Padres 3: [Insert Anchorman Reference Here]

Denis Poroy

This wasn't a big deal, things didn't escalate quickly, no one killed with a trident, people do know what the name 'San Diego' means, and stop trying to do the harmonizing for 'Afternoon Delight.'

Record: 80-79. Pace: 81-81. Change over last year: 0.

Thankfully we won't have to see the Padres again until 2014, because they sure kicked our asses this year. 7-11 against the Padres, the only other division rival to play the Diamondbacks as tough was the Giants, against whom the Diamondbacks went 7-12.

Trevor Cahill has continued to look like a pretty good pitcher, which is nice. I don't know if it has been enough to overcome the mental block I have against him, but I guess I can't complain. 5 2/3 inning isn't enough, but the overall results weren't terrible. He only had one bad inning, detailed below, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks.

Robbie Erlin took the mound for San Diego, and he went a little deeper than Cahill. He lasted 7 innings, gave up an equal 2 runs, but only gave up 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7.

The Padres scored their initial runs in the 3rd inning, getting a slew, peck, gaggle, cord, group, sord of hits to take a 2 run lead. It started innocently enough with a 1 out walk by Wil Venable. He was subsequently picked off at first to provide your daily dose of TOOTBLAN. It was too bad for the Padres, as Chris Denorfia followed with a triple. He was brought home by a Jedd Gyorko single, who was subsequently brought around with a Chase Headley double.

The Diamondbacks immediately responded in the top of the fourth with a little offense of their own. Paul Goldschmidt took a walk, and Martin Prado hit a 2 run homer to tie the game. It's too bad he had such a slow start this year, because he's kind of a fun player. Haters to left and all that.

After that there was a lot of trading of scoreless innings. No one cares about that, it's boring, what you came here for was the scoring.

It was a getaway day, so of course that means extra innings. Fast forward to the bottom of the 11th. Medica hit an infield single, then advanced to third on a ground rule double that AJ Pollock couldn't find. An intentional walk followed, loading the bases with no outs. The Diamondbacks luck wouldn't last any further, with a game winning single making through the middle infield to give the win and the series to the Padres.

Sparsely attended Gameday Thread, because obviously. We didn't even break 200 comments, and most of it was doom and complaining about extra innings. Time to move the Diamondbacks to Winnipeg, where the real fans are. Commenting roster was: 4 Corners Fan, AzRattler, Clefo, Diamondhacks, GODSCHMIDT, GuruB, Paper Clip, asteroid, azshadowwalker, hotclaws, kishi, onedotfive, peachBazket, porty99, soco, and xmet.

Comment of the Day goes to Clefo:

We say "Free Baseball"

As a sort of way to joke about extra inning games, hey it’s ball you didn’t pay for but you’re watching it anyway. But now it feels like we need to be freed from Baseball. Halp

Diamondbacks head home for the final series of the season against the Natinals. First pitch is the usual 6:40pm, and there's some Social Media thing at Chase Field. Tune in, go to the game, get really into amateur HAM radio, do what you want. I'm not your boss.
