Diamondbacks 13, Rockies 9

Dustin Bradford

I would like to apologize for whatever comments may happen to have been posted under my name on the SnakePit, during SocoFest, because I might happen to have left myself logged on in another tab... The parties responsible will be subject to... repercussions....

Still, hard for me to be stern on such a fun afternoon, where the Diamondbacks jumped out to a seven-run lead by the middle of the third inning, and more or less cruised to victory the rest of the way. A four-run second was powered by a two-run double from Chris Owings, and a three-run third had RBI by Paul Goldschmidt, Matt Davidson and Gerardo Parra. However, that wasn't enough to get Patrick Corbin his 15th win, as the Rockies hit him almost as hard, they got 10 hits and two walks off him in only 4.1 innings, with three strikeouts and four earned runs allowed.

However, the bullpen large held things together, allowing one run through the end of the eighth. Josh Collmenter struggled in the ninth, but if you're going to allow four runs in less than an inning, doing so with an eight-run lead is probably a good time to do it. The Diamondbacks offense blew things open with a five-run ninth that included Davidson's second three-run homer of the series. Arizona pounded out a total of 19 hits, three off the season high: Adam Eaton, A.J. Pollock, Aaron Hill and Gerardo Parra all had three-hit games, with every starter reaching base safely at least twice.

The D-backs head for California, and start a four-game series against the Padres tomorrow. Brandon McCarthy takes on Eric Stults in the opener.
