Diamondbacks 3, Dodger 9: Tire Fire

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Patrick Corbin has normally been good for the Diamondbacks in 2013. Zack Greinke has normally handcuffed the Diamondbacks completely. Tonight neither continued, but it was Arizona who was left holding the bag.

The Dodgers got to Patrick Corbin early, and then kept going.

Corbin was never given a chance to settle, giving up 4 runs in the first inning, two of which were delivered on a Juan Uribe home run.  Arizona's best pitcher for the season only went 2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 6 earned runs.  I suppose the bullpen was marginally better, giving up 'only' 3 runs over the remaining 7 innings.

The game saw the return of Matt Kemp for the Dodgers, and he looked to be in MVP form.  In his first game since July 21st, Kemp went 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs, and scored a run.  It should be obvious that the time off did him good.

The Diamondbacks 'got' to Zack Greinke, if only in comparison to how they've faired in previous meetings this season.  In 2 previous games, Greinke gave up 4 total hits, which resulted in 2 runs.  Tonight the Diamondbacks managed 6 hits and 2 runs, so maybe by 2020 they'll be able to beat him.

It was all around an awful game, and I wouldn't blame you if you didn't watch it, and instead watched the New Girl and Mindy Project season premieres.  Not that I know anyone who did that...

Full recap to follow by someone who had the misfortune to be at the game.
