Diamondbacks 8, Rockies 2

Jennifer Stewart

Paul Goldschmidt had four hits and finished a triple shy of the cycle, and Randall Delgado worked six solid innings as Arizona beat Colorado to take the series at Chase Field this afternoon.

Goldschmidt had a good day overall, going 4-for-4 and driving in five runs - that gives him 114 on the season, tied with Luis Gonzalez's 2000 for third on the all-time franchise list. He also clubbed his 32nd home-run (above), a two-run shot in the 3rd that just went over the yellow line on the batter's eye in center-field. He came up in the seventh with a shot at the cycle, needing a triple, but singled - he was stranded on-deck in our last time at bat, in the eighth. Adam Eaton, Martin Prado and Matt Davidson had two-hit games, Davidson getting his first major-league HR. We had 12+ hits for the fourth consecutive game, the best streak of the season.

Randall Delgado looked good, allowing two runs over six innings, on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Inevitably, the two runs came on a homer, but otherwise, Delgado had a solid outing, and lowered his season ERA back below four. The bullpen kept Colorado off the board the rest of the way, and Arizona improved to 75-73. A four-game series against the Dodgers starts tomorrow, and the victory means that we need to take three of those contests to avoid having Los Angeles celebrate on our turf. It won't be easy, but is doable. Hyun-Jin Ryu faces Trevor Cahill in the series opener.

Preston will be along with the guest recap in a bit, so stay tuned for that.
